I'd say Marquez is the best person around to beat Erik myself.

Marquez is an amazing fighter, and still completely tooled up. He's the perfect guy to pick his spots and not allow him the shots he was given against a bullrushing Maidana.

Matthyse should be smart enough. Marquez definitely would be at 135/140 IMO.

If it had happened at 126 back in the day, WOW! Both quality operators who will swing for the fences when caught flush and both full of heart and resilience.

Best fight you could make out of our 'Fabulous 4'. Hopefully JMM fights Morales before it's all said and done and rounds it all off ;-)

In their peak I reckon Barrera and Marquez would have been a superb fight :good

I actually also thin BB that Morales would have played completely into Marquez's hands.

I think if they fought now Marquez would dominate Morales and win a very clear decision..... not sure he'd get rid of him.

Might be worth it's own thread but it'd be interesting to hear people's views on Marquez (now) vs the young bucks between 135 & 147.

    I'm thinking....

    Khan
    Bradley
    Alexander
    Maidana
    Ortiz
    Rios
    Matthysse
    Berto

    etc etc

Marquez vs either Barrera vs Morales at their peaks would be excellent contests, they'd both probably need three fights to determine superiority, if at all possible. I'd hardly say the three fights between Morales and Barrera determined anything other than them both being great fighters.

iMO Barrera had both the capacity to box, counterpunch and come forward. I'd say Morales only the box and come forward style. Marquez is and was a pure class act. I think he'd have ended up stopping Morales late on.

The list you've mentioned there.... I'd say Marquez is better (by far than) them all.

Khan and Berto could have relative success given there size and weight advantage, but at a neutral (or lower) weight, Marquez is simply to technically gifted for them all

Go on then...... predict the outcomes if he fought them all tomorrow......

    Khan - Marquez points
    Bradley - Marquez points
    Alexander - Marquez stoppage
    Maidana - Marquez stoppage
    Ortiz - :think
    Rios - Marquez points
    Matthysse - Marquez points
    Berto - Marquez stoppage

Does that make me a fanboy? :think

I think the Maidana and Alexander fights would be very one-sided indeed.

It's pretty clear that Maidana's power is overrated so he's not gonna blow Marquez away, he'd be made to miss a lot and be hit with plent of hard shots.

For me the fight would play out similar to the first Diaz fight, with the uppercuts working with the body shots, forcing a stoppage in the mid rounds.

Alexander would probably quit on his stool, he'd be hit with right hands all night long and eventually his mental fragility would come to the fore.

The most fan friendly fights would be against Matthysse and Rios - can see him outboxing both to relatively clear decisions.

i think Marquez would massacre Rios, he'd keep walking onto shot after shot and end up getting stopped like Katsidis or maybe on cuts
