tony ayala should not be included in fights against accomplished ATGs..........cause nobody knows what ayala really had. he had beaten nobody in his career. sure, he looked talented and was favoured to unseat davey moore, but that was just on paper. who says he would not have faltered once he met a real world class guy???? Remember, these scenarios have been all too common in boxing: a big hyped up prospect falling at the starting line. just take a page out of history: hogan bassey ko3 ricardo moreno. or vorapin ko7 ala villamor. and on and on. so for all we know, who says it would not have been a moore ko 3 ayala.................and then, just how rediculous an ayala vs monzon fight would seem to even comment on.
Baz mcguigan once joked that when monzon saw his missus on the floor outside he should have stuck a window cleaning cloth (chamois.) in her hand to show it was an accident......
Interestingly two of McGuigan's wives as well as his grandmother all died in window-cleaning accidents.
Monzon by ko in 7. It would not have been competitive after a possible 1st round going to Ayala on aggression only. Monzon always started out slowly, but he would have figured out Ayala by the 2nd, and like I said, it wouldn't have been too competitive, with Ayala being picked apart and stopped by the 7th.
Agreed. And it'd be a bad ko loss at that. The kind of licking guys don't come back from is my guess & there wouldn't be any point in a rematch. And once he slides down the ladder a few rungs, Ayala would've been vulnerable to lots of guys. But no shame in losing to an alltime great and trying to move up in weight to do it.
