Common sense yields common results. It's highly overrated.

Rahman was most certainly not an average puncher.

Very true. The only things worth less than common sense are the opinions of those who lack it.

Indeed. I thought this was universally understood.

Max Baer could hit....but god was he crude! A 70's Foreman almost looked like James Toney next to him

Crudeness is what made him special, that and his athleticism. He was usually the quickest man on his feet, was willing to get hit, and had that ideal long reach, so he could move around and do what he wanted.

His attacks were wild but not telegraphed, especially when you are in the ring with him. Hard to anticipate where those wide swings are going to loop, plus he would paw that glove or foreaem out and blind you.

Thats if hes on game though.

No guess work to it. He had success against far more technically refined fighters than himself, including a KO win over one of the best.

Baer is another that has become overrated on here as time goes on.
He was a sloppy indisciplined performer for the most part who relied on a big right hand and good chin.
If Lewis turns up In one of his indifferent moods he could walk into a big right hand and be taken out.
If Lewis is focused and fit he decimates him.

Lewis had a habit of blasting out the biggest punchers he faced(Grant, Morrison, Ruddock, Golota, Briggs) hile boxer-types dragged him the distance. This is bad news for Baer.
