In my opinion a movie needs to be made about this man. From growing in in Chicago's Jewish ghetto, to his fathers murder, to his acquaintance to Al Capone, to his rise in boxing to a 3 division champion against some of the p4p best ever, to enlisting in the military, requesting to see action and becoming a hero at the battle of Guadalcanal in WWII to his subsequent addiction to morphine and pain killers after being injured at war. The man consistently overcame adversity through out most of his life and should be seen as an inspiration. Thoughts?
I haven't seen the movie, but they talked about one in his biography that didn't get into to much detail of his life and wouldn't touch his drug addiction because it was so taboo at the time. Is this one and the same?

i don't think films should be made about people like barney ross... they can only fail to do him justice.
To me Barney Ross exemplified what courage is, in his whole life as a fighter, and after.! There was no more courageous boxer ever than Barney Ross ! Sometimes soon before his death in 1967, I was at a social with friends in NYC. Gossiping with pals, I happened to notice, a white-haired man standing at the bar all by himself nursing a drink. It was America's hero Barney Ross, and my dad's hero as well. He seemed so darn alone,standing there by myself, and I wanted to go over to shake his hand and maybe tell him how much this hero of the Ring and Guadalcanal meant to me, but coward that i was, because I was so in awe of him, I let him stand there alone by himself... What a life Barney Ross led. A Golden Glove Champ in Chicago, father shot in a holdup, errand boy for Al Capone,sole provider of his widowed mother, triple title champion against such greats as Tony Canzoneri, Jimmy Mclarnin, Billy Petrolle, taking a terrible 15 round shellacking, when past his peak,from the Hurricane that was Henry Armstrong, enlisting in the Marines,saving many Marine buddies lives at Guadalcanal, becoming addicted to morphine to ease the pain of war injuries, and finally beating his terrible addiction...This was to me Boxing's greatest hero ever, and a helluva a fighter to boot !!!No wonder I was in such awe of Barney Ross that long ago afternoon...
