Yet Winky's defense, accuracy and timing are superior to Joe's. So what is the point with that? And when has movement bothered Bernard? Which fight? Movement is what Bernard is known for using against opponents (hell look what his movement was able to do vs Winkys workrate...basically cut it by 66%)...never the other way around. Not vs Jones...not vs Taylor...not vs Winky...not vs Tito...not vs Tarver...not vs Oscar...not vs Eastman....not vs Echols...not even vs John David Jackson...not vs....oh you get the point. :huh Your a smart man. I respect you alot as a poster...you know this. But knowing that about you...I KNOW, you dont really believe that Bernard has zero chance of actually winning. Your WAAAAAAY too knowledgable on the sport (and both of the fighters when your agenda isnt swayed against Bernard) to believe that. Anyone picking on stoppage by Joe is insane....is it too late to delete what I wrote above about intelligence???? :nut I love Mijares...but your taking it to a new level. If Im his manager...Im filing paperwork on a restraining order as Im typing this.
Winky is flat footed, not dynamic at all, he's hittable if you smother him with shots. His timing and accuracy may have once been slightly better than Joe's, but Joe's timing is fantastic and his speed in hand and foot much more effective than Winky. Winky cannot even compare to Joe Calzaghe, ESPECIALLY at 170 pounds. Against Jones, Calzaghe and Jones are vastly different fighters and Jones superior of course, but they both use the in and out movement. A B-Hop/Jones rematch would have resulted in Hopkins losing even wider. Hopkins is now 43, Joe's not prime by any means, but he's fresh and on fire. Joe's a stylistic nightmare for him at ANY POINT, much less now. Joe's in and out movement, workrate, subtle defence, awkward angle shots and pace are just way, way too much for oldman Hoppy. I totally believe what I said, you're just biased because you're the biggest Hopkins fan on the forum mate. :bart :nut You may love him, but you aren't yet a believer in god Mijares. Grow up Sues, find a spiritual connection with god Mijares.
Calling Winky "hittable" is like calling a cheetah slow. The man's shell defense is amazing. Has been for a LOOOOONG time...weight, age, etc aint gonna change that. His timing is still top notch as well...its why his jab is so good. And Joe doesnt have great timing. He throws in volumes for this specific purpose. He is PHENOMINAL at what he does well...but timing is not one of those things. (I do think he has good timing...but not great timing...BIG difference) Its been a loooong time since Joe came in at 170+. Thats like saying Oscar cant compare to Tito at 170....HOW THE HELL DO WE KNOW, OSCAR AINT BEEN THERE YET. (BTW, I know Calzaghe is gonna carry 170 just fine...just ****ing with ya bro ) Jones didnt really win that fight on movement (it helped like it did in all of Jones fights...but). Timing and speed is what got him the W. And its not like any of that really bothered Hopkins as well...it was a pretty ho-hum fight. The rounds Jones won, they were clear but not dominant. The rounds that Bernard won, they were clear but not dominant. One of the easiest fights Ive ever attempted to score...8-4...116-112. And as we both have eluded to in the past, that was neither man's prime. As Jones got bigger, stronger and faster...Hopkins defense, timing and ring intelligence grew immensely. A rematch would not have been anything but a close GREAT fight...one both of their ****ing egos robbed us of. But thats another post for another time. So the quick, high output, tough as nails awkward southpaw is a stylistic nightmare for the older defensive wizard counterpuncher, who because of his impecable timing eats southpaws alive? You can say what you want about his age, but if we threw out the names (and for many where they are from out as well), and we listed their strengths and weaknesses, 100% of the posters on here would give the stylistic matchup to Hopkins. Lets not fool ourselves. Your listing defense as a strength for Calzaghe in this fight??? You have officially lost it. As you are biased because of you being the #1 fan of the Supernatural One on the forum bro. :good :blabla :verysad I am convinced. He is a great talent. Im also convinced you are sitting outside of his gym right now typing away on your laptop waiting for him to show up....and its kinda creepy. Seriously tho, Im just worried, the last hype train we boarded together, derailed pretty quickly, crashed and burned (****ING TRAVIS SIMMS!!!! :fire ). Im not sure if Im ready for that kinda disappointment again....give me time. I gotta go to bed tho....its late (I gotta work in 5 hours...)...
Joe won't tire ala Taylor and Taylor's aggression proved to hinder Bernard who likes his space to plan and strategize key moments Joe won't give him that either. In fact Joe is everything Taylor is and more. More amusingly Bernard says he'll never let a white boy beat him but he needs a white boy to condition him. :deal
JC has a good instictive defence. As long as he sticks to his style then BHop is gonna get KOd near the end
Are you serious? If that was true, then why over the second half of the fights, when Taylor actually threw MORE punches and was MORE aggressive, why was Bernard ever MORE effective? Hopkins is a PHENOMINAL counterpuncher, who has some of the best timing EVER! Which if you know about matching styles means he THRIVES when the opponent is aggressive or ups their workrate. atsch It was hype.. As I have said over and over and over. TONS of ATGs have used race when hyping a fight...Ali, Tyson, Holmes, etc. all did it. I could keep going and going. Yet noone seems to have a problem understanding that what they were doing is hyping the fight. Get over it.
Hopkins did a good job and clearly beat Wright, but nothing in the fight showed me he could beat the current Calzaghe. Especially with his declining speed and timing.
He hit Winky cleanly and even staggered him late. That is something NOONE has done in over a decade (Vazquez being the only one I can remember). Winky's defense and style is MADE to make fighters look slow and bad....yet even by your own admission he clearly won (something that again, ONLY Vazquez can really claim). Now think how Hopkins timing will look vs a fighter with half the defense of Wright (and by saying half, that is being very generous).
Bernard will school Calzaghe... Mackie Shilstone's back on board, clearly seeing the conditioning challenge Calzaghe poses. But it won't be about conditioning at the end of the day. It's going to be a question of 1) FOCUS (Calzaghe is a rythm fighter, Bernard a thinking fighter, he'll time Calzaghe's rythm and disrupt it... and without rythm going, Calzaghe will look like an ordinary fighter ala Sam Soliman), 2) movement, Bernard knows how to half someones punch output by smart movement and feints, 3) skills: Bernard is the better fighter, plain and simple. All the above make me believe that Bernard will school Calzaghe. It will look easy my friend, people will call Calzaghe a fraud afterwards.
wow i hadn't seen it like that. I'm off to put my house on BHop out thinking, outmoving and outskilling the clearly out of his depth calzaghe. Then again one of Bernard's coaches John Jackson says of calzaghe, "He hasn't been champion for ten years and make 20 defenses for no reason. He can fight. Joe's a crafty fighter himself, very smart and cagey." Hmmm....... think i'll hold off on that bet
