he lost to taylor first time out and calzaghe. i had him drawing with taylor second time live and beating taylor the other time i watched it. all absolutely ****ing horrible fights.
He was robbed against Taylor twice, that's for sure. What a joke those decisions were. Without the power of HBO behind their latest hype job, and Hopkins unpopularity with the boxing establishment, he would have officially won both those fights.
I had him winning the first JT fight, a draw in the 2nd and like you 1 point ahead of Joe in their fight!
He beat Taylor twice. He landed the cleaner, more effective shots against Calzaghe. The man has gotten the short end of the stick more than once. You can make a case for the Calzaghe, if you judge fights on activity rather than substance.
he's one of the best boxers of all time, and boxing happens to be my favorite sport. So of course i give a **** about him but definately, he lost against Calzaghe. However prime for prime he beats him handily. He showed that much when they fought in 2008

I'm a big Hopkins fan, but he did lose to Calzaghe and Taylor the first time. I did have him up 7 rounds to 5 against Taylor the second time around. After the smoke is clear, and Hopkins decides to call it a career, he will be one of the very few greats to have never been stopped or knocked out in a fight. While facing elite oppenents for the last 10 plus years of his career.
Because he's a great boxer. And he's won a lot of fights as the underdog (thinking Pavlik, Tarver and Trinidad here). I wouldn't be as much into boxing if every fighter was like Arturo Gatti. Hopkins uses his skills; fair play to the guy.

I wouldn't call them robberies. I thought the two Taylor fights were draws and he beat Calzaghe by a couple of points. The thing is that Hopkins is not the most popular fighter and if a fight is close his opponent is going to get the decision. But you can't call a close fight a robbery. I'd use that word for fights like Lewis-Holy I etc
I'm a fan of Hopkins and scored the first fight with Taylor a draw(could go either way), the rematch I gave to Taylor in a clear UD in my opinion and the Calzaghe fight was a clear win for Calzaghe. Hopkins showed some serious desperation with Calzaghe and it was obvious, he even looked confused at some points and it's extremely difficult to put Hopkins in a position like that so full credit to Joe for it.

IMO if you scored the first Taylor-Hopkins fight for Hopkins then you simply don't know how to score a fight. I distinctly remember Hopkins giving away the first 7 or 8 rounds and then coming on strong at the end. Hopkins didn't score a knockdown in the late rounds so he didn't earn any 10-8 rounds. When you give away more than half the fight and don't score a KD you have no chance to win.
His last 3 defeats were all close fights, not robberies. What I really had a problem with, though, is the fact that he lost the title in the first Taylor fight after Duane Ford gave Taylor the 12th, and the fight, 115-113. I can see if he had given Taylor 7 rounds because of earlier in the fight. Neither guy was really doing **** though, Hopkins mostly moving and defending and throwing the occasional punch. Taylor was pressing the fight and doing more work, but landing little. The rounds were close and not easy to score.
