Born February 2nd 1952 in Berlin Germany, Burnd August, Alias " Beanpole" was a heavyweight boxer. His career spanned from 1973 to 1983 with most of his fights taking place in his home country. Though he retired with a modest record of 28-9-2-19, he began his career 16-0-1-9 and was a multiple time holder of the German heavyweight title. Standing a muscular 6'6" and with weights ranging anywhere from 205-224, he was quite an impressive site. Sadly he was killed in 1988 at the age of 36, while visiting Australia and riding a motorcycle when a kangaroo crossed the road. Anyone else know anything about this guy?

I did not realize he had passed, that is too bad. He's one of those guys that I could picture immediately but didn't know much about him. I believe Richard Dunn's victory over him was used as justification for Dunn's getting a shot at Ali. I wonder if they were hoping that August would win since the fight was ultimately held in Munich and August was telegenic.

Just a smiling B & W photo of him with longish blond hair from a 1977 Ring Record Book ..
