Was robbed of stoppage wins vs both Holyfield & Moorer by de same trick like Mirena used 2 save Clay vs Henry Cooper . stopped Orlin Norris . Would have loved 2c his fight vs Nate Miller . N under8ed fighter 4sure even if not a top 20 HW . kaming 2 think about it , official wins over Moorer & Holyfield wich he deserved along with his stoppage of Norris @ 190 , might have made him a worthy candid8 4 my top 30 HW , even if not a lock there .
Does anybody else get the impression, in watching that video, that Cooper wasn't even punching hard? Sure, he was hitting him good, but I don't think he was going full out.
Man, Joe Savage talked a lot of **** going into that tourney... and then disappeared off the face of the earth after Cooper brutalized him.
Always gave an exciting fight and one of the hardest hitting crusiers ever, him vs Morrison and Hide would have been cool to see.
Bert Cooper`s career was a lot of fun for the fans. He brought excitement. When he beat DeWitt he looked like a surefire contender for Tyson`s title. That was a savage beating he gave Willie DeWitt. I remember telling my friends he was going to make some noise in the division then he gives a half hearted effort against Carl "The Truth" Williams. He was a warrior and a likeable guy.
Cooper was an honest workman with decent power..always fun to watch becase you know he'd give it 100%.
good power and great heart. moving up to heavyweight gave him more popularity, but at times his size was a hindrance like against Bowe and Foreman. A smaller heavyweight he did great against.
Somewhere along the way, he lost the dream or never had it. But to those who say he had "decent" power, those who fought him said it was way more than decent.
Was just about to comment on this he was seriously one of the hardest punchers of the 90's and that's really saying something. Additionally he moved up, so that just shows how crazy his power really was. Ollie McCall said he was the hardest puncher he faced and Mercer rated him alongside Morrison as the hardest puncher he ever faced. Absolute wars with Holyfield, Moorer and Mercer. Still fighting today as IIRC.
