I know the guy, but don't know his story. Anyone care to fill me in? I wouldn't mind knowing his story.

Unless he's written an autobiography their aren't too many internet sources that go into detail.

It's obvious the guy knows his boxing but I've read stories that are far from complimentary about him as a person.

My father met him once, and chatted with him for some time. I forget where he said he came from, but he basically did a cram course for himself on boxing at some point, and then came out of nowhere sometime around the '70s marketing himself as a longtime boxing writer/historian.

He's basically a showman, a act. His stories are unoriginal and stale. He is all schtick and no substance. He should be banned from all exposure to true or potential fans of the sport.

I met him last Wednesday, didn't seem like a bad guy. Reminded me of an uncle I have.

He's a nice guy in person, but Seamus has a point as far as his credibility as a historian goes.

Co-authored one of the worst books ever written, 'The Complete Idiots Guide to Professional Wrestling'. I should share half of that title for buying it many years ago.

Actually, looking at that Wiki bio, I wonder if thats the same Mike Fitzgerald who allegedly judged the Katsidis-Escobedo fight the other night.

He's not all bad though, to be fair to him. I like the way he continually stuck it to the AMA in his editorials when he was at Boxing Illustrated, and some of his fight reports were entertaining to read.
