Schmeling did the exact same thing when he got out of boxing.

Lived to be, what, a 100 friggin' years old and did the entire Coca Cola thing over in Germany.

Barney Ross was successful until the stock market crash, and Tunney was well off his entire life.

Good fighters seem to mostly be intelligent people.

Lobotomy is the new poster who is putting up some amazing stuff. I like the classic posters more than the ones in the general forum. Too much immaturity and flaming going on in there.

Unfortunate he did NOTHING else :)

In any event, this deals with real classic posters.

There is no such thing as the best classic poster.

We are positivley spoiled for good posters and all have different strengths and weakneses.

We have top notch analysts like OLD FOGEY Cross Trainer and Stonehands.

John Garfield is a living auricle.

There are at least a dozen other posters whose views I would take close notice of.

We can converse with bon fide historians like Kev Smith, Klompton and Monte Cox.

I'm never here to name names about who is and who isn't an *******. They present themselves.

Edit: Also I only check the classic forum. Ever since a google search pulled this forum up for me I've been searching it ever since. I have a lot less regard for the members of the general. Too much...blind faith, lack of argument skills, failure to see proper points, and the die-hards. I cannot take the die-hards (i.e. "If Tyson comes back he could own the division". I'm more of an amateur historian.

Duodenum, ChrisPontius and dpw417 come to mind, though there are probably others.

Terrible poll. No Janitor, no Manassa, no Sweet_Scientist, no Stonehands89, etc etc. Then again, what more do I expect from Old Man River? You probably forgot who they were 5 minutes after arguing with them.

Agreed, you have different individuals here who seem to have more knowledge in various areas of boxing such as specific weight classes, eras, particular champions, etc. I don't know nearly everything about boxing history and frankly never will nor even care to. I just focus on the things that hold my interest, while letting others bring to the table what they will.

    Here's my top 5 p4p

    1 - Janitor
    2 - Stonehands
3 - My Dinner With Conteh
    4 - Sweet Scientist
    5 - Mendoza

So i'll vote for My Dinner out of those.

Manassa gets an honourable mention. I'm sure he'd be top 3 if he cared enough to make an effort.
