If you are talking 80s then here are my top 3.... 1. Leonard 2/3. Whitaker/Chavez (I know Whitaker got the better of jc in the 90s but I just cant separate them in their prime) :good
1. Hagler 2. Leonard 3. Chavez 4. Tyson 5. Spinks 6. Hearns 7. Sanchez 8. Fenech 9. Holmes 10. Duran 1980-1989. Irrespective of what went before or after the decade.
Excellent list. I tried when doing mine, to think of it being the the 1st January 1990... As time has gone by, I think I would of put Chavez higher up, Pryor lower and maybe Fenech a bit higher. Plus my loathing for Leonard has grown and grown. Although I do like doing these top 100 lists, I can understand the argument about after top 30 or so it is a bit of a mere mentions list, and the numbers against the fighters names should be taken with a large pinch of salt (Minter #62; what **** was I on?). But Minter a side, I like this list and IMO no fighter is more than 15/20 places above or below where they should be; which for a top 100 list is good going! :bart I am a pretentious ****er sometimes
Yeah, it's too difficult doing 100 because often there's nothing to choose between places 26-60 or the like. Pryor was originally in my top 10 but then I remembered that Duran won 3 titles in the decade so some may put him even higher- but he loses marks for his many losses.
Chandler and Zaragoza a bit high in comparison to Happy Lora. Both had simlar accomplishments and Lora thrashed Zaragoza terribly. All in all decent list though.
3 people Leonard beat being well above him makes you yet again invaluable as the village idiot of the Classic section. Please don't ever leave, or change (in any of your id's) :happy
Duran 4th is quite laughable. I squeezed him in because he did win 3 titles, which is a great achhievement. However, he was beaten many times in the decade- and looked a right lemon when faced with extravagant boxers. I rate Tyson above Holmes in the 80s too- he was undeaten and, maybe, looked unbeatable.
