    Betting Odds for fights.
    Were the Odds-Makers correct or way off.

    Floyd Patterson vs. Sonny Liston I

    The odds opened with Sonny Liston as the betting favorite.
    7 1/2 to 5,,,,,Liston (favorite)

    Heavy early bets on Liston pushed the odds up.
    8 to 5,,,,,, Liston (favorite)

    A heavy rush on Liston bets from Chicago made the odds soar.
    2 to 1,,,,,,,Liston (favorite)

    A mild late rush of bets on Floyd re-adjusted the Final Odds.
    8 to 5 Sonny Liston (favorite)
    9 to 5 Sonny Liston (favortite),, by Jimmy 'The Greek' Snyder

    Wonder what the odds were on a first round knockout?

    Many thought that Patterson's greater speed would be a factor, but Liston ended up being able to time him with ease. Every time Patterson bobbed & weaved in an effort to avoid Liston's jab, he came up with uppercuts.

    It is interesting some odds you get.

    I remember Berbick/Tyson; Tyson was only 1/2 a week before the bout, although late money had him at a lot more solid 1/5.

    Reading an old Ring/KO, where they a bit on odds of upcoming fights:

    Shane Mosley/Phil Holiday: Pick 'em...

    Hindsight's a *****!

    TBooze,

    You could get some good odds on that Tyson/Berbick fight for a Knock-Out within
    3 Rounds.

    The odd fight that still jumps around is the First Sonny Liston vs Cassius Clay.

    Opening odds;
    8 to 1,,,,,Sonny Liston

    Then crazy early Liston money driving the odds to;
    10 to 1,,,,Sonny Liston

    Then the Miami money on Cassius Clay got going, changing the odds to;
    7 to 1,,,,,Sonny Liston

    Miami street odds had it down to;
    4 to 1,,,,Sonny Liston

    After the weigh-in fiasco, late-morning the day of the fight;
    8 to 1,,,,Sonny Liston (in Las Vegas)

    Just before fight time, the Las Vegas odds;
    7 to 1,,,,Sonny Liston

    Just a random fact... one bookie had Jersey Joe Walcott a 15-1 underdog for the first Louis fight.

    Is it possible for you to contribute to ANY thread without mentioning Ali/clay? I mean, in another thread a middleweight was mentioned (forget who but im sure you'll remember) and whilst talking about said middleweight, you inexplicably brought Ali/clay into it :lol::lol::lol::lol:

    Holy started out as a 25 to 1 underdog against Tyson in '96.

    I even heard it was possible to find him as a 33 to 1 underdog at some places.

    However, late betting on Holy made rise to 6 to 1 underdog before the fight.

    Funny thing is, he was only a 3 to 1 underdog in '91, which is far more reasonable.

    Don King sure hyped the hell out of post-prison Tyson!
