Nice channel of good 80's champ Billy Costello. Fights include:

    Bruce Curry (partial)
    Saoul Mamby (partial)
    Leroy Haley
    Ronnie Shields
    Bob Elkins

There was a nice round robin of fights back in the day between Costello, Curry, Mamby, Haley.

Hey, thanks man! This brings back some great memories. For those who haven't seen it, his fight with Shields was the runner-up for fight of the year in KO magaize for 1984.

Like I stated on another thread, this past Sunday I had the honor of being the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the Annual Ring 8 Christmas Party & Award ceremonies. Sitting with me were all-time Great Champions as Joe Frazier, his son Marvis Frazier, Leon Spinks, Emile Griffith, Vito Antuofermo, Juan LaPorte, Tracy Harris Patterson, Iran Brakley, Burt Young, Tommy Gallagher (The Contender), Steve Farhood, Joey Gamache, Vinny Maddalone, Harold Lederman and Melvina Lathan, just to name a few.

Billy Costello was also suppose to be seated at the Dais as well, But they told me that he was very ill with cancer.

This thread is Great as it does bring back many memories of the past.

Great book, Black Lights, written about boxing in general but about Costello and the Mamby fight in particular. Recommended.

I remember Billy, pretty damn good fighter.I hope he beat his battle with cancer. But I often wonder if, with Lonnie Smith beating him, if Howard Davis Jr. could've pulled the trick in 84/85?

I quite enjoyed watching all of those guys fight back in their time..Mamby and Haley were my favorites, but I enjoyed Costello's reign as champ...a very entertaining, honest fighter.
