Props to B.J. Penn. Kinda disappointed we didn't get to see another epic back and forth, but that's just how things go. As much as I think Hughes is a cocky and arrogant ass, he is still such a great fighter I can't help but admire him. He showed class in defeat. Cheers to Hughes as well.
It's probably a good thing for Hughes that he gotten flattened so quickly. This should make the decision to retire easier. As for Penn, the common wisdom is that he should go back to lightweight, but with those hands, he'll still pose a challenge at 170. Well, not for GSP, but for some other guys.
I really did not expect that. I thought that BJ was going to win, but I thought it was going to be a hard fought battle. Good to see Penn actually looking passionate.
Whenever BJ wins a fight its always so damn impressive. There are alot of great fighters that seem to kinda just do enough to win or win close alot or have to come from behind alot. Where with BJ its always the kind of win that has people talking for months. I mean come on who in the hell has knocked out Matt Hughes in 19 secounds like that ? A KO was a strong possible outcome but there is nobody who expected BJ to do Matt like he did Caol Uno back in the day.
His hands were dynamite tonight. He looked good as well. I'm going out on a limb here but Edgar just might be his achilles heel, simple as that. There was nothing in this fiight to suggest that BJ has slipped, MATT was on a roll and he was just buzzawed with precision. The change of corners may have some affect.
I have been thinking the same thing, Edgar may just be a very bad stylistic match up for BJ. Also BJ looked really motivated as compared to his fights with Frankie, not making excuses for him but it's like he beats himself before the fight sometimes. If Maynard beats Edgar again (which I think he will) going off today's form I'd say BJ gets his title back off Maynard.
I didn't care about trying to watch UFC 123 (pressing matters in the world of boxing always take precedence), but was curious about some of the results. Honestly, for some reason Machida losing to Rampage was more surprising to me than Penn disposing of Hughes in the 1st round. :think
BJ is lucky paul daley got released, well hell anyine is lucky he is realeased left hook = KTFO [be sure to tune in dec 4 for the ass whoopin of a life time]
