Figured I would have better luck asking this in the MMA forum rather than the Training forum. I'm looking at this new gym, and I want to start the classes, but sessions are only 45 minutes long. It's Monday through Thursday, but that doesn't seem like the best workout or way to learn, thorugh 45 minutes. Would taking these classes be a waste of my time? :hop
45 minutes seems very short, unless that's all the technique and the wrestling/sparring/rolling comes after. I teach classes of 1 hour and even that seems short, after you warm up and stretch for 10-15 minutes, drill technique for 15-20 that leaves you only 20-25 minutes for rolling. Ideally it'd be like a 15 minute warm up, 25-30 of technique then a good 45 minutes for rolling (actually, ideally everyone would be warm and ready before you start and you can jump straight into technique drills and then wrestle for like an hour)
It's only 45 minutes, no rolling or anything afterward. You warm up before session starts, and you jump right into technique and rolling. Not only from the knowledge standpoint, but from the fitness standpoint is 45 minutes enough to get a good workout in? :hop
45 minutes is plenty from the fitness stand point. I generally don't consider fitness as an issue, if people are there to train BJJ, train them in BJJ. All the warm ups, drills and rolling will get you fit anyway. From a knowledge stand point, 45 minutes is okay, because if you're warmed up before hand and you're straight into drilling and rolling then you're trimming a lot of the fat that generally takes up a session. Still, 45 just seems short to me. I've had sessions that have lasted hours and the time just disappears, especially if you've got a good flow with your training partners.
I may be reading this wrong, but I realize I typed it funny in my OP, I'm joining a new gym not starting one up and was wondering if 45 minutes was a good time for a class. That's what they schedule their classes at. Sorry if you knew I meant that, I'm just trying to clear up any confusion. I'm just going to go ahead and join up, if it doesn't work for me then I'll find somewhere else. Thanks for the replies. :hop
I knew what you meant, just giving a different perspective on things. But yeah, 45 minutes feels short, but if you find you're progressing and you're getting enough mat time in I don't see a problem.
at my gym well usually spend time into the following warm up and stretch - 15 minutes learn and drill a new technique - 15 minutes learn and drill a follow up technique - 15 mintues pass sweep or submit from guard 10 minutes live rolling - 30 minutes cool down 5 mins im usually pretty knackered by the end of it.
1 hour No-Gi then 1 hour Gi... and if you are feeling pumped you can do the Wretling class before... that is how i roll :deal Lynchburg
Pretty much same order here. 45 minutes does seem short but depends on class size and dynamics. Live rolling we also split into 15 minutes of speed rounds of 30 seconds looking for reversal and escapes.
