Sad that a man in his mid 20's, who has dedicated his life to the sport, has to retire due to unforeseen circumstances. That's life!

My friend travelled from abroad to play rugby was playing international and was a top club player. was pitted to be one of the best. one tackle and 4 knee ops later he retired. hes 40 odd now and been battling the bottle ever since. tough pill to swallow. Hope he can find some solace and something worthwhile to get him stimulated. Tough road ahead giving up something you love
I quit boxing after a slight change was found in the brain. I love boxing, always have, always will, but it put everything into perspective for me. I have an amazing girlfriend who I love and 2 beautiful children and am happy and content with life. I still do bag work regularly but no sparring or fighting. It's enough for me. Hopefully nick will go on to live a happy and fulfilling life. He's only young and has his whole life ahead of him. Proved himself a warrior in the ring. I'm sure with his heart and fighting spirit he'll be successful in whatever he chooses to do next. Good luck nick
Great thread mate. I am thinking about retiring soon as well, the fights are not easy and all the punches add up. Blackwell is a warrior, he has made the right decision. If he even tried to come back you would like to think the Board would block it. He would most likely not be the same fighter anyway. It is unlikely he would take a head shot the same either. Best of luck to Blackwell in whatever he pursues, seems like a genuine nice fella.
Great post. I'm sure if Nick was single and didn't have family he cared about he would try and fight on. But as others have said, the last few weeks would have been hell for them and he has put their feelings before his own. Top man and without question the right decision. All about priorities

A very wise decision. Life's too short as it is to take such risks with your health. Nobody wants to end up like McClellan or Magomed.
