Bob Fitzsimmons owned a number of exotic pets one of which was a pet lion called Nero. The excapades of Fitzsimmons and Nero took up many column inches.

On another ocasion Fitzsimmons took Nero down to El Passo to be fitted for a new collar.

The lion got loose in a Mexican village killed a goat and drove the local people from their homes before Fitzsimmons could aprehend it.

 

Pfft, goats >>> lions as we'd later see with Fitz.

I can back that up, growing up on a goat farm.

 

Fitz once took in a wild bear cub.

Great article Janitor, do you have the conclusion? I'm interested to see how that training wound up after Fitz punched the lion.

 

From what I can gather the lion lion was devoted to Fitzsimmons but periodicaly broke out of its cage and killed livestock.

Eventualy it was killed when it got itself entangled in some electric cables.

 

Jack Johnson once owned a black panther, and walked the cat on a leash.

 

I think Battling Siki also owned a panther and walked the streets of Paris.

The lion was killed in a terrible accident on a building rooftop in front of Fitz ... I read this in Adam's book on Fitz ... a bizarre and horrible event ...
