seeing as some people think that old timer`s like fitzsimmons would fair very badly against the more modern style and fast on their feet types,and others feel that fitz had the fighting style to catch them and stop them as he was a very heavy puncher and beat heavier foes .what about fitzsimmons vs johnny nelson (15 rounds and 200lb limit) i know nelson not a great but that is why i picked him as a he is modern bigger and quick on his feet and some feel average modern day fighters would be to advanced for fighters from fitzsimmons era i think fitz would overcome size difference an stop nelson
Nelson is seriously hard to hit, has the jab, speed, size, rangyness (10inch in reach). Nelson didnt have the best workrate but Fitz doesnt fight at a fast pace anyway. Nelson UD
Nelson would dominate to a UD. no doubt, nelson was a very effective fighter who fought much heavier guys eithout getting stopped.
thanks for replying.i was working on the assumption that nelson some times got gun shy when hit hard and might fight to defensively and thus allow fitzsimmons to walk in with out having to worry too much and later in the fight fitz would land a huge shot then finnish him off .
You can't just walk in because your opponent gets defensive, they will counter punch you on the way in if you do that Sanders couldnt KO Nelson, Thompson couldnt, Akiwande couldnt. And those men are much bigger and Sanders and Thompson are proven bangers
the thing with nelson is he did have fights when he just did not throw punches at all and at times some of his punches that he did throw in defensive mode were pretty limp and powerless so walking in would not have been the often suicide tactic .but do take your point
