How vicious was his right hand? I still cringe when I watch that KD he scored against Ruddock. Absolutely savage. He also had Tyson hurt in the last few seconds of the 12th.

Never having been hit by it nor ever speaking to anyone who has, I can't exactly rate it. But he certainly knocked out or hurt more than his fair share of people with his right. Thing about Smith was that he likely hit as hard as any heavyweight but had poor finishing skills. Marvis Frazier was decked and had a broken Jaw in their fight, yet survived to win a decision. Ferguson was down and hurt too but also lasted to see the final bell as did Jose Ribalta..

Dangerous bloke.I remember watching him beat Bruno when I was a kid .started late about 28 I think would give any heavy weight in history a bad day when he was in the mood.

He was a good puncher, but pretty slow and sloppy on defense. Bruno would have won if he had any stamina. He was way ahead. A past it Holmes beat him, then prime Witherspoon and Tubbs easily decisioned him. He came back to blitz a notoriously slow starting Weaver and surprised a seemingly ill prepared Witherspoon in a rematch. He fought to survive against a prime Tyson. No shame there. After that he was pretty much a durable trial horse.

LOL the night Lawless almost topped himself with both the Bomber and his other money maker, Mark Kaylor losing, coincidentally, to another late developing future alphabet champ (Buster Drayton).

Bruno took quite a few of them right hands clean, before finally tipping over.

Hard. I'm surprised he never makes his way into discussions of the hardest hitters of all time, if only as an honorable mention.

His raw punching power was remarkable, and one can only wonder at the potential results if he'd started boxing at 10 instead of in his mid to late 20s.

He turned Tim Witherspoon's impregnable chin (albeit a sloppy, lackidasical Spoon) into vapors, and he liquidated Mike Weaver, dropped Ruddock and Frazier, buzzed Tyson, and had Holmes in trouble a number of times in their fight.

Every time he uncorked a bomb on Holmes' chin, Holmes would grimace, wobble, clinch and squirm around the ring until he was out of trouble. Smith was too raw and inexperience to capitalize in that fight and others.

Lets put it this way: Bonecrusher never lost a fight because he didn't hit hard enough. It was everything else.

Smith could hit no doubt about it. To this day, I wish he had fought to win instead of survive against Tyson.

One of my favorite heavies. Did quite well for starting in his late twenties. Good guy too.

Morrison, Lewis, Tyson, McCall, Bruno, Ruddock and Bowe all hit harder than him.

I heard that Bigfoot Martin rated him as the hardest puncher he fought, and he fought everyone.

Bowe was not an exceptionally hard hitter by the day's standards. And Smith's power translated to elite results unlike Morrison.
