Instances of boxers fighting outside of the ring.

Tony Galento vs Jackie gleason. Galento instigates a fight and Gleason, not knowing Galento, stops his own show to fight him. Galento knocks him out with one punch. Here is Gleason telling the story to Marciano. Marciano actually was a very good interviewer.

Another one I know of his from ALi's autobiography. He claims he had to fight several white guys at a diner because he was black and they didn't care he was wearing a gold medal. apparently dispatched them pretty easily and threw his medal in a lake.

There is also the tales of Jack dempsey fighting grown men in bars at like 13 years old or something. Along with Jack Johnson winning BRAWLS by himself against several other young men.

My personal favorite is mike tyson vs wesley snipes. Snipes stole Mikes Girlfriend and mike caught them. Wesley agreed to "talk" to snipes in the bathroom and apparently snipes was found unconscious.

That Ali story is all bull****. He admitted as much in later life. Even the throwing the medal in the lake part, he recanted.

But yeah there have been some good digs outside the ring.

The best stories are those of old former boxers, like Dempsey and Conn, taking out young thugs...

    Here is a story.

Some redneck scum walked up to Joe Louis, pretended he wanted to shake his hand, then cold ****ed him with a punch. The 140 lbs Jesse Owens pulled a knife and wanted to kill the redneck ape.

That is the difference between boxing which is " only " a sport, and " violence " in which people get seriously hurt. This is the reason why plenty of fighters have been killed when they got involved with violence.

Not actually a fight but I enjoyed the story of Henry Cooper flattening Oliver Reed when they were filming "Royal Flash".

Ali told a lot of lies.
Ordinarily, a man like that is referred to as a liar.
Ali has a special dispensation from that sort of thing.

That is true I would point out though that many fighters have the propensity for violence hence finding themselves in that profession. A pure sportsman is lost in the world of violence.

I heard a story of Nigel Benn assaulting people and then having his picture shown on a most wanted show for people in the UK. A man then saw him not knowing who Benn was and attempted to apprehend him. He ended up like the rest of Benn's assault victims.

I've heard several Nigel Benn street anecdotes of him nearly punching people's noses of their faces and busting a man's eye socket.

Many fighters came from rough upbringings. Dempsey and Foreman as examples were real killers in the ring. They're history both on the street and in the ring would make them dangerous in any environment.

    Another little anecdote.

In his first fight against Zumah one commentator said he believed it was Jeff Fenech's first trip to the US, the other guy said " I have to correct you there. Fenech was deported from the US some years previously for battering 2 nightclub bouncers ( in New Jersey I believe ) both of whom were well over 200lbs."

Conversely Eamonn Magee who is very quick to use his fists outside of the ring, has been " punished " ( I believe is the euphemism of the day ) by some hard line thugs, being both shot in one leg, in one attack, then dragged out of a car, and having his leg broken and kneecap fractured with a baseball bat in a separate one.

He was tough was Magee. If I remember rightly he had Ricky Hatton in a spot of bother!

He certainly did, twice. With the KD Hatton was up almost before he was down, but in the following round Magee nailed him again and Ricky fell into Eamonn and held for dear life until his head cleared.

Apparently it was him who went in the dressing room just before the Zoo fight and told Hatton he would win if he was prepared to give it everything.
