thats a company within a sport thats starting from the ground up. Also you seem to forget about the likes of Strikeforce and other MMA companys. The reason De La Hoya wants to do that is so he can put on PPV fights and pay fighters a limited amount of money. The highest paid fighter in UFC ever was James Toney he got $750k. Thats why De La Hoya wants to do it.
exactly. small talent pool. Boxing has a massive talent pool. What the **** are Goldenboy going to do in the UK, Germany, Japan countries with established promoters and fighters who sell more tickets and earn more money than US fighters outside the top 10-15.
The problem isnt that the sanctioning bodies themselves $10 mill each is probably a bit of an underestimaton tbh. I would be interested to know how much the sanctioning fees for the WBC were last year. The only problem i see is the promoters refusing to release their fighters for fights Also eventually the situation would come ful circle somebody would get pissed off not getting a title shot and form a breakaway organisation take some of the top contenders BOOM we have asecond title
If boxing got it's act together, it could potentially **** all over the UFC. But it requires alot (promoters, television companies etc) all working together to get the best fights done, stacked cards etc
In all honesty mega cards like this and regularly are the way forward and fighters are probably in the medium term going to have to accept smaller paydays but its about keeping momentum so that people are always interested in boxing.
Boxing would be a lot better even if one of the organisations had an owner who was pro-unification and wanting their belt to be the best, ranking other champions etc.
