if its a world title I believe they get a replica copy.

I think they carry the original belt to the ring on fight night, I may be wrong on that.

 

Yeah you're right. I remember seeing David Haye on a chat show saying thats what happens.

 

They get to sleep with it.

 

They get to keep THE Lonsdale, not a copy. As far as I know boxers don't get given replica Lonsdales.

 

no there is no copy of the British title, you win it and defend it the required amount of times you get to keep it for good, not a copy the original.

 

As far as World titles are concerned.... I was always under the impression that you had to buy the belt from the Organisation and have it engraved yourself. At the shows they sometimes have belts with the board reps.
The World Champion doesn't hand his belt over when he loses. You may get a copy to hold onto for a while. I think I remember reading somewhere that Hamed borrowed Steve Robinsons belt afterwards??

 

you must get a copy or buy them of the respected organisation cos mayweather comes in with all his former wbc belts at each weight held aloft by his team.

 

They actually have to pay for a keepable copy of a world title belt. I think it was in a Pavlik interview I read that.

Indeed. You would have thought that the belt would be free, but it's not. Sanction fees, Belt fees, fees even if you fight and don't defend your titles. This is why I believe when a fighter wins a title and becomes Ring Champion, they should dump the Alphabet titles and defend when and where they want for no sanction fees. The shows, TV companies should pick up the sanctioning, judging etc. We may not need the WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF's etc.
It's not an exact science, but you don't need Boxing organisations and promoters dictating who gets a shot or not. You could be the best boxing in the world, but if your face don't fit and if you don't have a promoter to push you, you will wait ages for your shot if you get one at all. It's never been easier to be a World champion, even if your not the best in the World.

 

I think it was a grand for a WBC belt. Quite alot when you consider less famous guys from the smaller divisions are fighting for 20-30 thousand in some cases and it's just green leather and fake gold, you could probably get a cobbler to knock you one up for a couple of hundred quid. And that's on top of sanctioning fees and so on.

 

Mayweather does not care about belts anymore, they just collect dust.

The Ring created a Pound for pound belt, when they wanted Pernell Whitaker to do a photo shoot, and asked him to bring his WBC belt with him.

He replied saying the WBC had yet to give a belt, despite him being a WBC champ on and off for about eight years at the time...
