    The story about Rocky Marciano being cheap and hiding money made me think..... how about some Stories not related with the fighting itself ?

    You know.... like the story of Schmeling hiding jews in his house.... more about their personal lives you know.

    Im pretty sure this is a true story about Joe Louis at Caesar's Palace. Caesar's is my go to spot and the word is that " When the IRS got the best of Louis and he no longer had a boxing career the owner of Caesar's Palace gave Joe Louis a penthouse suit where he lived for the remainder of his years rent free.

    There is also a really nice sculpture of him outside the sports page which in my opinion certifies this awesome story.

    I once convinced a friend of mine that the statue of Louis at Caesar's was an actual, life size rendering.
    I met Joey Maxim at the Sliver Slipper- I think it was- a long gone casino.

    Not too long after winning the Olympic gold medal, Michael Spinks said f*** boxing and got himself a stable job as a janitor. one day when he fell asleep on a toilet, got fired and chewed out about wasting his talent.
    Although reluctant he wanted to support his mother and thus went on to become one of the greatest light heavies ever and the first man to go up in weight and take the heavyweight crown!

    James Buster Douglas once gave me a lift after my car broke down on Christmas Eve. He also gave me 400 dollars for a taxi fare to the next town, and a pair of old boxing gloves that he signed.

    He was a nice dude.

    The story of James J. Braddock is also worth mentioning. "The Cinderella Man" natural LightHeavyweight has been through many fights. Worked as a manual laborer, starved, boxed with a broken fist,... and after 25 (twenty-five) defeats became Heavyweight champion. He also knocked down Joe Lewis in the first round.

    In the Victor Galindez vs Richie Kates fight, Kates landed a shot and cut (or it was a headbutt I dont really remember) Galindez, it was a super nasty cut, horrible, and the referee was about to stop the fight... and the doctor was about to stop the fight too......

    But you know boxing belongs to the clever people, Tito Lecture, the great Tito LEcture the argentinian manager, was a very clever man, and the referee said something and the doctor didn´t hear him (the doctor was below the stairs already), and Lecture told the doctor that the ref had said "one more round" ......

    The ref was asking what the doctor was saying... and Lecture then told the referee that the doctor said "one more round", which was not true..... they both didn´t say that..... and the fight restarted... Galindez won that round and won basically all the rest of the fight and knocked out Kates....

    Galindez was friends with Bonavena, and Ringo was killed that night ! Galindez went to the hotel happy with the win and they received the news that Ringo was shot and killed in America.

    Bonavena´s murder is also a controversial story... nobody really knows what happened.

    He used to go to this strip club in Vegas, Mustang Ranch, Joey Conforte was the owner, and Conforte was connected to the underworld althought he was not a mobster, at least not part of any of the mafia families, he became friends with Conforte, and Conforte became Ringo´s manager..
    but their bad blood started when Ringo wanted to retire and Conforte didn´t want to, Conforte was pushing it, shaking him down really, and Ringo was about to leave USA without Conforte´s "approval"....
    A lot of people also said that Ringo was banging Conforte´s wife... which I don´t believe it.

    I think Ringo didn´t realize that Conforte hated him so much to the point of getting him killed....
    He was killed by two of Conforte´s goons, in my opinion he wasn´t expecting that...

    Ringo btw is a symbol of the Club Atletico Huracan, a traditional fútbol club in Buenos Aires, to this day the fans chant his name in the games (“Somos del barrio del barrio de La Quema, somos del barrio de Ringo Bonavena !!”)
