can anyone explain just what boxing politics are? they pop up all the time but are never explained ,they seem to stop fights happening all the time so i thought id ask you guys.:huh
Like real world politics: What makes money? Some fighters struggle for years because they don't make money and they're too good for promoters to risk their biggest sellers Who has power? The main brokers in the sport are Golden Boy and Top Rank. And they get a lot of benefits from the money and influence they have. If you **** them off... Who's on TV? TV dates are manna from heaven - if you've got the dates, you control the fights. Who's in control? It's a sport of egos and attitudes. Every one likes to think they're the man, and if they don't feel in control... well, they make it difficult for everyone else.
You'll need to be more specific over which fights to get a detailed answer mate, the politics of boxing and the people/ organizations behind them are a very tangled web so its hard to give a detailed, general answer without running to 100s or 1000s of words.
righto, so boxing politics are the deals that get done ,or dont get done .i just find it frustrating that these things arent more transparent and im left guessing at the cloak and dagger antics of managers/promoters, is there a difference between a manager and a promoter?
Theres SUPPOSED to be a difference because a manager is supposed to negotiate with a promoter to get his fighter the best deal. If they were the same person this creates an obvious conflict of interest. In practice a fighters manager and promoter can be in cahoots with each other at the expense of the fighters or the manager can be an employee of the promoter so that the promoter is also effectively the manager. Theres all sorts of ways around it and different ralationships involving boxers, promoters, lawyers, advisors, managers etc...
