My heavyweight Rushmore lol Louis, Marciano, Ali and Dempsey. Pound for Pound Ross, Langford, Robinson and Greb perhaps.
I really would love to get Tyson in there but only 4 are allowed and I think those 4 have done more for the sport than Tyson or Marciano.
Joe Louis- Greatest Puncher of all time, greatest heavyweight of all time. It was because of him that blacks began to get more acceptance into proffesional sports. He also was a hero in World War II saying "we will win because god is on our side." An Icon. A Legend. There will never be another like him. Represents the way an American should be combined with true humbleness. Muhammad Ali- He achieved the impossible over and over again. The most famous boxer in history. He touched more peoples lives than any boxer in history. He was a true hero, and backed it up in and out of the ring. His charisma and personality will never ever be duplicated. represents confidence and courage in society. Sugar Ray Robinson- Greatest fighter of all time. He is the complete package a fighter could ever hope to be. Too this day, people marvel at just how amazing he was compared to everyone else in history. Represents people with god given talent. Rocky Marciano- Greatest undefeated record of all time. No matter what your limitations are, keep working hard and you will get what you want. The man did not know how to lose. He did not know how to give up. He defined the motto "Hard Work makes dreams come true." Represents the true underdog spirit of America.
Dempsey may have been a big "Hollywood" star. But I dont think he did more for the sport than Marciano who clean out his divsion, while Dempsey sepnd years making Hollywood movies in simi retirement. Marciano did more imo.
Jack Dempsey seemed to have 2 lives. In the teens, he was an icon. He represented what it takes to get to the top doing everything the hard way. He got there through hard times, times we would consider torcher in todays world. But once he got on top, it changed. He allowed the Roaring 20s, money, fame to get to his head. He drank and partied his way back down to the bottom. Marciano represented the true underdog spirit of America. he never ever changed.
I think that Dempsey1238 is right in that it would be nice to have a heavyweight mountain and a pound 4 pound mountain. We just butcher two mountains. My pound 4 pound mountain would be: Fitzsimmons, Langford, Greb, Armstrong
I disagree. The guys who brought the most attention to boxing are Sullivan, Dempsey, Louis, Ali and Tyson. This is what made boxing I think.
p4p mount rushmore: greb, robinson, ezzard, langford heavyweight: jack johnson, joe louis, muhammad ali, larry holmes
