Does anyone know how Boxrec rates fights on their no stars to five stars system. I always thought it had to do with the quality and rankings of the fighters as well as the significance of the fight. Apparently I was wrong. I was just looking at Muhammad Ali's fights. The Thrilla was given three stars, the Rumble was given four stars and the freakin' Fight of the Century was given only four stars! As a comparison, Austin Trout-Erislandy Lara and Miguel Cotto-Alfonso Gomez were given five stars. I don't get it.
Thank you for posting. Now I understand how they do it. I just can't understand how Ali and Frazier would not have been in the top 100 boxers for the FOTC or the top 300 for the Thrilla in Manila.
Well, there's a catch here because the algorithm that BoxRec uses to determine the rankings of fighters is always getting updated. It definitely rewards fighters who stay active and produce early KOs.
I remember waking up one morning to read that Boxrec had Eric Molina was the #5 HW and that's the last time I bothered with Boxrec rankings.
