After last night I'm certain it isn't a complete computer programmed rating method.
I always had that idea when rankings shfited after big fights, but now I saw that they actually manually change things how they see fit.

Kovalev had just won his fight last night, and I went to BR to see if it had already been updated. I saw it wasn't but he was very close to Pascal and Stevenson before the fight and would probably surpass them.
The difference between Pascal and Stevenson was the thing that caught my eye the most. Pascal had 558 points and Stevenson had only a single point more at 559, wich I thought was weird anyway.

Now the update has been made and Kovalev indeed surpasseed Pascal, but not Stevenson who magically got a 251 point bonus added to his name :blood

Of course I can't prove this because I didn't get screenshot or anything like that, cause who would actually do that, but for me it's clear now that they obviously get manipulated as much as alphabet ranks.

That was my rant... now back to everyday life ;)

Good spot, Ill have to look out for that.

Maybe moving to Al Haymon and Showtime gets you boxrec points :D

Well done for spotting that, and thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Boxrec still has Bute in the top 10 LHW's which is utterly ridiculous. Every ranking system, human (biased) or "mathematical", is flawed.

boxrecs obviously rates americans and brits way too highly. it kind of seems an autistic kid compiled the rankings.

So that means I just read it wrong :!:
Guess that voids this thread for the most part.

Any rating system will never agree with everyone's opinion. I produce the Independent World Boxing Rankings, we started over 20 years ago and for the last 14 years produced the IBO ratings. When you have objective ratings you have to have rules and rules sometimes can't see the rapid decline of a fighter. We too have Lucien Bute high. You can check them out by typing (I am not allowed to publish links) Independent world boxing rankings then dotcom.

Maybe Boxrec have adopted a formula change. Eddie Chambers was 15 at heavyweight last night now he is 29.

Martin Murray ranked in the top 10 at MW is proof alone that there's a heavier weight to human opinion than a strict computer ranking.

No, it's a strict computer ranking. Everyone is subject to the same formula.

Then the draw with Sturm must carry a lot of weight because there's nothing on his record from a non-biased computer ranking system standpoint to suggest he belongs where he's at.

You can go up with a loss with Boxrec, if you narrowly lose to a much higher ranked fighter.

If you throw out any sort of ranking, you will find someone who says that someone doesn't deserve the ranking they have. It's impossible to have a system that everyone agrees with.
