Hi, so Brian Magee is fighting Mads Larsen for the EBU super middle title in a couple of weeks. What do you think of Magee is he any good?

He used to be decent, though not great, but I haven't seen him since his fight against Tony Oakey...

Larsden has been inactive but, when he wasn't, would have been too much for Magee.

    Could go either way.

I hope Magee wins this, he was ****ed over by Haye and Quigley regarding the British.

    He was very, very good.
A slick southpaw with good speed and power although a vulnerable chin.

The fight after Robin Reid was robbed against Sven Ottke(well the fight was close-ish but combined with the referees actions it was a robbery), Magee outboxed Reid and would have won a decision if not for the fact his chin let him down bigtime. It went the full 12 rounds but Reid floored Magee 4 times and won a close decision.

Magee was then very unlucky not to win the European title vs Vitali Tsypko in what was a bit of a hometown decision the Ukranian and then Magee gave Carl Froch a very tough fight(it's on youtube), until Froch knocked him out in the 11th, the 3rd time Magee was down in the fight and his chin letting him down again.

He had noticeably slipped by the time Froch fight came round, but still looked a solid operator and since then it's been hard to judge how much further he's slipped. He fought to a draw with decent British Light-Heavyweight Tony Oakey in a fight which really divides opinion.
I haven't seen the full thing but from those that have I'd heard very conflicting stories.

He looked pretty decent on his way to stopping Stevie McGuire back down at his natural weight of Super-Middle in his last fight. But McGuire isn't really even a big player at domestic level and it's hard to judge what Brian has left off that.

A his best Larsen was probably a better fighter, but he's slipped massively himself and it really does seem to be a battle of 2 faded fighters who possibly should have picked up World titles but didn't.

Larsen doesn't seem to have the same pop in his punches anymore(Although the Cocco stoppage wasn't bad), and that's a major blow for him considering Magee's main weakness(his chin). If there's a stoppage in this one, Larsen will be the man to get it. However if not Brian should run him close, and has a decent chance at pulling off the upset away from home.
