Can't see a thread about it anywhere else.

The fight of off with Muttley complaining of sore ribs.

Brook wants Matthew Hatton to replace him :!:

    It's on Britishboxing.net

Kell Brook's much anticipated British welterweight title defence against Young Muttley is off.

Muttley has pulled out complaining of sore ribs but Kell will still be making a defence of his belt on the scheduled date, May 22nd at Bethnal Green.

Matchmaker Dean Powell is believed to be already compiling a shortlist of possible challengers for Brook's Lonsdale belt. Considering Kell's recent form, though, and the consistency with which opponents have pulled out on him, Powell's list might end up being very short indeed.

‘I knew this would happen', said Kell. ‘He did the same thing against John O'Donnell and a few years back he didn't fancy it against another Ingle fighter in Junior Witter so he obviously doesn't want to fight any of us. To be honest I don't know why he's worried about his ribs, I hadn't got any intention of hitting his body, I was just gonna bang him on the chin and knock him out!

‘Muttley's named after a dog and so I had intended to play with him for a few rounds. I wanted to show the public exactly what I'm about. After I'd put on a bit of a show he was gonna get the chocolate brownie [Kell's pet name for his big right hand] somewhere around about round six!

‘He probably thinks that I'm gonna be vacating this title after my next win because I will have won the belt outright – so he'll be thinking he could box for the vacant title. But I've got some bad news for him – I'm intending on defending this title plenty more times yet. If someone wants it, they're gonna have to come and take it off me.

‘In all seriousness, though, I have got a lot of respect for Muttley and so I have prepared and trained really hard for the fight. Probably the hardest I have ever trained because he would have been my toughest opponent yet - without a doubt. So I'm very disappointed. I was looking forward to the challenge of being in with a big puncher like him and I always box better when there's that element of fear that you could get beat.

‘But there is a positive to this - this is the chance for all them kids who've been calling me out to step up to the plate. Craig Watson, Michael Lomax, Jamie Cox – and especially Matthew Hatton. I know that none of that lot go out of shape between fights so surely someone will want it. They've got four weeks notice so that's plenty of time.

‘Long-term I'm targeting Michael Jennings. I think he's an excellent boxer and that would be a very hard fight. But in the meantime Hatton would be the one I'd prefer on a personal level. He's slagged me off and called me the weak link out of the British welterweights so if he wants to drop that fight he's got in America and box me for the British title he's welcome.

'But whoever it may be that eventually plucks up the courage to step in the ring – they need to know that Special K is ready to rumble!'
