Burns - Martinez Round One

A perfect example of something I've often debated with myself, Burns dominated, Martinez landed one punch.

Is there anybody who didn't score this 10-8 in Martinez' favour?

If not, is it an admission that you will NEVER score a round like this to the guy who basically was the better fighter over the 3 minutes :think

Based on most people's interpretation of the scoring you have to give it to martinez.

I think Billy Nelson summed it up in the corner when he said to Ricky, 'you lost that round on one punch!!!'

Burns actually won nearly all the round..... should he really be 2 points down because he went over?

It's an obvious flaw with the scoring system that you might do everything but stop a guy and only get a 1 point round.... yet catch him off balance (not that Burns was off balance of course) and get a 2 point round :think

 

I see nothing wrong with the scoring.

It's the reason to stay on your feet!!!

A great punch is worth that much bearing in mind that you are pretty close to winning the fight with that 'one' punch if you knockj a guy down!!!

 

I usually 10-8 them regardless of who had dominated the round prior to knockdown.

 

Same here, but is that actually the right way about things?

Fighter A (who has a china chin) could land 20 solid punches in a round.

Fighter B lands one solid punch and his opponent goes down.

Should fighter B get a 2 point round for getting out hit 20-1 in similar punches?

(I know this aint amateur boxing, it's just an example.)

 

It's there to encourage aggression and power punching.

I'm cool with it.

 

In short my answer is yes.

Just because a knock down is the result of good work.

If you have that china chin then the onus is on you to improve your defence.

 

It's good work that the other fighter did 20 times.

 

Not if he didn't avoid the shot that puts him down.

In that case the boxers one punch was worth more than the opponents 20 because it did more damage!

And because it did more damage than the other boxers 20 combined then it should score more!!!

 

Not sure to be honest, logically it should be 10-9 with such an occurrence, but I, like most people 10-8 for some reason.

 

So basically you're giving it to the guy with the better chin?

And solely for that reason.

(I am playing devils advocat for the sake of debate btw :good)

 

Same here, I always score them 10-8, not that it's a frequent occurence.
