God I'm so sick of the silly "the pros do it!!" argument people always use. Think about it for a second. Professional athletes more often than not have great genetics and many could easily still be great DESPITE their shitty or outdated practices.

I have never heard of any good professional who doesn't run.

running is essential. swimming, biking, whatever else, will not have the same benefits. bag work and jumping rope are also necessary - in different ways - so it's stupid to say 'that's all you need'. I do not see how you can ignore running.

me personally i enjoy running, but there are boxers who dont run, evander holyfield never runs, the only time he ran was when he was being trained by manny steward, and even then manny had to run with him to make sure he runs,

like virus said, running trains a energy system, it can be done other ways.

i gotta agree with young monzon , you gotta run as a fighter. running is hard, builds disclipline. all of my boxers run, i would not switch running for anything.

yeah, but that's not all it does. You get the leg strength and endurance you need in the ring. Also, you're moving on your feet, which is obviously what you're doing in boxing. You're strengthening your ankles and the bones in your legs. Something like swimming won't have all these effects...neither will biking. It's the best form of conditioning, aside from sparring .

evander holyfield is a pretty-boy bodybuilder who happened to have enough talent to succeed, and he is one rare example of a fighter that doesn't run

that is a very stupid statement, evander was one of the most hardest working heavyweights of all time, manny steward says he never saw anyone work as hard as evander did, he would bust his ass day in day out, even to this day he is one of the best conditioned heavyweights,

it wasn't his fault he had such a phyisique, i guess you think mike tyson is also a pretty boy bodybuilder huh?

I didn't say holyfield was lazy, I said he was a pretty boy bodybuilder, which he is. And he's stupid not to run.

    and tyson is a warrior.

some people are just more focused on aesthetics than others; you can sense it in their attitude.

this depends on what you want to gain from your exercises, if your doing them for muscle endurance then doin them straight after boxing training is fine, if your looking for speed, strength or explosive gains doing the exercises straight after the boxing will not offer any substantial gains in these departments and should be done when the body is rested.

holyfield is more of a warrior than tyson ever will be, holyfield fights his heart out, what makes you think he is more focused on aesthetics?
