From viewing the cal/lacy fight numerous times I'm still astonished by his speed of punch and work rate, showed it to my dad recently who used to be big into boxing, could name every hw champ since john l etc, who lost some interest after the introduction of multiple belts, and he suggested that he almost looked a different fighter againt hopkins, has he really diminshed so much?

lacy's style wass made for calzaghe. Calzaghe likes to be the counterpuncher aginst hopkins he had to force the fight.

He's declined some, but he looks worse going after people than he does shredding them when they come after him. It'd not be wise to pick either a stationary fighter, or a pressure fighter over Calzaghe, any of those types in history.

But a slick mover gives him a bit more stylistic problem, even though he can still get plenty of good work in when the few times he faced this type.

I agree Hopkins is much better than Lacy, tho I see Kessler giving Hopkins a good fight. Joe hit Lacy at ease but could barely tag Hopkins, tho I think he won the fight I was impressed with B Hop. Maybe Joe used wrong tactics despite winning? he looked slower and a lot less sure of his boxing, almst surprised at times.

There is no doubt he has declined, of course he has.

Depends who it is. Lets not pretend that Joe has faced every style, he has probably faced one elite style wise and he was an old man. Eubank was elite but Hopkins has retained his skills if nothing else, to a much larger degree.

calzaghe has faced every style possible that you could stereotype.

obviously there are a few individual fighters who are unique and know one else fights like.

    but your standard
    box /puncher
    tall boxer
    big puncher`s
    swarmer
    spoiler
    brawler
    defensive runner
    counterpuncher`s

calzaghe is tried and tested against.

maybe, but the Calzaghe that fought Lacy was far better than vs Hopkins...but then again, the Hopkins that fought RJJ was better than now, It just MAY be that Hopkins figured he'd have an easy time with Joe because he's southpaw, and moving in weight for the first time, and Joe didn't figure that Hopkins at 43 was like most LH weights at 33,.could that be??
