Dont you reckon it kinda depends on what Lacy and Kessler can achieve in the future? As of now its a good legacy, with a win over Hopkins its better, though not great. But If Kessler and Lacy carve out their own legacies then Calzaghe's greatness is assured dont you think?
I think Lacy won't do much for Calzaghe other than the fact that he's american. He won the IBF belt against a C level fighter in a close fight, and then defended it against a couple of past prime B to B- level fighters. Then Calzaghe beat the **** out of him in an easier fight than the Bika fight. Then in his very next fight "Left Hook" Lacy injured his left shoulder, and IMO will never be back on track. Kessler on the other hand beat the **** out of all the B to B- level fighters he ever faced. Unified the WBA and WBC. And even beat Mundine who is still considered top4 even after losing to MK. Kessler's only problem for building a legacy will be finding opponents. Its a GREAT win for Calzaghe. Confirms him as a lock on ATG lists imo. Time will tell though... BTW apart from Lacy and Kessler, Calzaghe has some very solid wins, and his amazing sting of defences, his undefeated record and his longevity.
its a good point. but in kessler i think that is a near cert. but its hard to get in the p4p ring rankings as a euro . i mean IMO kessler today or 3 weeks ago would beat winky wright and hopkins who are both ranked highly in or around his weightclass , yet supposdly p4p they would beat him.
I think Kessler will learn and get better from his loss to Joe, it was by no means a career ending type of fight. I think he'll start travelling more, coming to the states to get International reputation and increase his earning power. Lacy's got a big heart. Hopefully he gets back on track, but he got seriously spanked + the injury will make it tough. If he does well it will be a great story, hope it happens. Obviously, if they both do well, Joe's legend grows.
Kessler will cement Calzaghes legency, he's just started, he can do mucth better than that, and will learn from his defeat to Joe.
The flipside might also bolster Calzaghe's legacy; that the impressive undefeated duo Lacy and Kessler were so psychologically ruinned after thier beating that they just nosedived into oblivion. Wouldn't this speak volumes for the Welshman? You kinda see it already with Lacy. I know he's had shoulder problems lately, but I doubt he's mentally all there after his shocking crushing defeat to Joe C.
