Ricky was an everymans man. Jocular, loquacious, appeared a bit simple. Flaws worn on his sleeve. Touch of Gazza about him, and the British public love a Gazza sort.

Froch, on the other hand, university graduate, half polish, proud, hard working, bit private/ has a reserve, supremely confident. Great British public perceives him as a bit of a "middle class" knob.

Which actually reveals more about British tabloid culture than it does about either fighter or Britain itself.

Can't really blame englishmen for gravitating to an everyman. What do you expect?

From looking at it from over the pond, Hatton was a phenomenon we won't likely see again. I loved watching his fights because no matter where the hell they were held, Hatton's fans were there in force. Always made for a great watch.

In Froch's case, it seems a fair share of the population, British or otherwise, want to see him get ktfo. Never had the full support of the nation, but earned their respect, oftentimes grudgingly. Or so it seems.

No TV coverage. Casuals didn't know who he was until the day after the Pascal fight, even then it took until after his first defence before his promoters began to get some wheels turning.
