Your crazy. Sanders had the highest ring magazine / Box rec / fight news ranking of the three, and owns the best win of the three.

How can you say Ibragimov or Brock, especially Brock was more accomplished?

Chagaev vs Sanders is a very good match that could go either way. Sanders is under rated as a boxer, and could take a decision as Chagaev seems a little gun shy to engage in matches where he fought bigger / stronger men. Chagaev beat Virichs and Valuev on speed and both fights were close. I happen to think Sanders is better than either Virchis or Valuev, and he certianly is must faster. And faster than Chagaev.

The match might hinge on how tough Chagaev really is. I think Chagaev has a top chin, but lets see how good it is vs Wlad. If Chagaev can hold up well enough vs wlad's power shots, I'll go with him. If Wlad ends Chagaev with relatively few hay makers landed, I'll go with Sanders.

I am wait and see on this match up.

Brock only had one quality win going into his fight with Wlad, his decision over McCline in which he was knocked down in. You fault Sanders for only having one win over a top ten fighter, Brock himself only had one win over a top ten fighter in McCline! Who Wlad pummelled into submission by the way. Sanders win over Wlad itself weighs more than Brock's entire resume.

Sultan is not far more accomplished than Sanders, either. He drew with Ray Austin, beat Shannon Briggs who can't even move around anymore, and beat an ancient Holyfield. Sanders demolition job of Wlad shows more than anything Ibragimov did. Even Sanders being competitive and arguably dropping Vitali shows more than Ibragimov fighting like a kitten against Wlad.

I agree with what you're saying, but I think SuzieQ, as well as myself thought that you were eluding to what these men had done PRIOR to fighting Wlad, therebye determining who was more qualified going in. Now, in hindsite I agree that Sanders' win over Klitschko trumps anything that Brock and Ibragimov ever did. But, as for who was more deserving of a shot, that is subject to question.

Ibragimov is a fighter who I don't think much of. He ran all evening from Wlad, and his only wins of note ( as you mentioned ) were against shot versions of Briggs and Holyfield. For whatever its worth though, he was an active fighting challenger who had never before lost. Dito with Calvin Brock. Sanders on the otherhand, had never beaten a true world beater, but may have had several wins over respectable upper tier journeyman. The other problem was that he was only appearing in the ring maybe once per year on average, and had bad losses to Nate Tubbs and Hasim Rahman.

To recap, Sanders win over Wlad was better than anything Brock or Ibragimov had ever done, and he may even have been a greater force in a lot of head to head matchups. But, if we're looking at who were the more accomplished fighters GOING IN against Wlad, then I think the aformentioned names take presidence.

"Sanders power and speed is vastly overrated. It didnt do him any good vs Hasim Rahman, Nate Tubbs, or Vitali Klitschko. Outside of Wlad, what top 10 world class figthers did Sanders unleash his "freak of nature like handspeed and power" on???? "

This is Suzie's post, where he mentions Sanders fight with Vitali. I too thought at first he only meant Sanders, Brocks credentials going into their respective fights with Wlad, but he fought Vitali AFTER Wlad.

We agree on this anyway, I'm not arguing that Sanders was more qualified prior to fighting Wlad than Brock and Iggy. Just that he was better h2h and after the Wlad fight it showed :good

Sanders simply had the right tools to beat Wlad, Chagaev doesn't have them. Accomplishments have nothing to do with it. BTW, Chris Byrd would beat Chagaev. McCline, Brock, Brewster and Thompson also have a decent chance.

You think Byrd would beat Chagaev?

I think Chagaev is a bad matchup for Byrd. Byrd won fights because he usually had a huge speed edge, and could counter and slip the wide and slow punches of most plodding HW's. Chagaev is slower than Byrd, but not by a huge amount, and he throws straight shots that would make it hard for Byrd to counter. Byrd's southpaw advantage would also be negated because Chagaev is also one. Byrd is a guy who thrived in this era because he was a defensive cutie fighting plodders, against guys who could also move and had skills I think he struggles.

I'd pick Chagaev over McCline, Brock, Brewster, Thompson without hesitation.

Who says Sanders power was over rated? Rhaman has been in the ring with Lennox Lewis, and David Tua. Rhaman said that Sanders hit him the hardest.

I was quoting Suzie's post, I think pretty highly of Sanders power :good
