Watching the recent Camacho doc on Showtime really got me rethink about this bout ..Chavez really simply beat the crap of of Camacho , pretty much with ease ... Camacho was only thirty but we all pretty much know the life he was leading .. my question is did Chavez simply destroy a semi shot Camacho or would have have always had Hector's number ?

That was a surprising fights. Camacho is lucky he had fights with older greats Roberto and Ray because Tito and Oscar and Chavez beat him easily. And had Roberto and Ray fought him earlier I think might beat him easily also. He had the speed to frustrate Roberto but nothing to keep him off.

I think he'd always beat Camacho, but with more difficulty had they fought 5-6 years earlier at LW.

And did you know that Julio Caesar Chavez Sr was the WBC no.1 contender for Hector Macho Camacho at 130 lbs in 1984. Camacho moved up to fight Jose Luis Ramirez for the WBC 135 lb title on August 10 1985, Camacho won the title on points, then called out WBA 135 lb champion Livingstone Bramble.

If both were prime it would've been more competitive without doubt but Chavez would still have won. What people fail to mention is that Chavez was past his prime also when he fought Camacho.

How do you think that would have gone in 1984? That would have been a great fight. I would think Hector would win a decision in 1984, but Chavez was always tough. I remember watching Chavez fight Laporte in maybe 1986 on TV. Oh yeah Livingstone Bramble. How surprising that was when Rosario knocked out Bramble in two rounds after going 12 with Hector.

I watched those two fights on Sept 26 1986 on HBO, Hector went 12 with Cornelious Boza Edawards, Edwards complained that all Camacho did was run. In the earlier fight on the doubleheader, Edwin Rosario Knocked out Bramble very easily. But in 1984, Camacho would have outpointed Chavez Sr, too much speed.

Yes Chavez destroyed a semi-shot Camacho

Would have been more competitive around 1986-87.

If they fought in 84-85 Camacho may have been favored

I don't think he was as self abused s Camacho .. Chavez went on to have great fights and dominant wins while Camacho was only beating second tier guys ..

Really? Well in that case why was prime Camacho almost stopped by Rosario while Chavez made mincemeat out of him?

That doesn't mean he was prime.

With all due respect, it is Christmas Eve. But styles do make fights. Very true that Chavez Sr did do a number on Rosario. But what I was referring to was Hector as WBC 130 lb champion in 1984, Julio was the WBC mandatory challenger, they never fought. Camacho moved up and completely outpointed Jose Luis Ramirez on August 10 1985, to win the WBC 135 title, even decked Ramirez in winning. In 1984, Chavez Sr stopped Mario Martinez in 8 rounds to win the vacant WBC 130 lb title. A fight between those two, Hector vs Julio would have turned out to be a better fight back then instead of their encounter in 1992. By the way, I respect everyone's opinions, I leave the debating for the politicians.

And BTW Chavez didn't beat anyone particularly special after Camacho unless you count the Randall II robbery.
