Duran does. Duran is more refined, has better handspeed, better outside game. Words can't describe how engrossing it would be. The level of infighting these two would push eachother towards... Despite my personal conviction that there's really no category in which Chavez is significantly better than Duran, when discussing the potential result of a meeting like this it will never be set in stone due to the sheer will of the men involved. But, Duran UD.
Ageed, duran was just a little better at everything chavez was good at, the main advantage i'd see duran having was the way he could seamlesly combine defence with offense espicially on the inside. He was the best ive ever seen at that and i think chavez would be missing and getting countered quite a bit. I envisage most of the rounds being close, but duran ultimatly doing more and winning the majority of them.
Chavez is a more systematic technician, but Duran is much more -he's an innovative technician. And fire melts ice. Duran beats Chavez on points... on his birthday. Which is today incidentally.
The more versatile Duran takes a decision by virtue of being able to alternately box when he has to and get in the trenches and slug when he has to. I think that theres just jigger's worth of split second spontanaity in the heat of battle, call it ring generalship, cleverness, or whatever..but I see him just barely edging Chavez. It would have been probably the superfight of superfights, in my humble opinion.
I'd like to see Chavez leave the ring on a stretcher and an oxygen mask wrapped around his mouth like a dog's muzzle............
