    I swear it goes back to when Mayweather beat Hatton in 2007. Floyd came out afterwards and said the first knockdown was from the check hook which put Hatton in the ring post. He explained the details of how it was used and learned in a certain gym where he trained.

    From then on everyone referred to it as the check hook. Or should I say it became used a lot more.

    I mean, a check jab is a more commonplace thing and not that farfetched to hear called frequently on commentary. It's just a stiff backfoot jab to "check" the opponent's momentum.

    These were terms used in American gyms for a long time before Mayweather introduced them into the common tongue.

    Yea I was more poking fun at commentary teams and how in the future there will be no "jabs" or "hooks", only " check jabs" and "check hooks" so they can try to sound more insightful than they are
