Did you see what happened on May 11th, 2024? (Or is it technically May 12th, because it was Australia?) They almost cheated that poor girl. Nina Hughes got the win thanks to the bumbling Lieutenant Dan Hennessey (a former United States Marine turned announcer). ESPN’s Joe Tessitore said it was an “absolute clown show garbage amateur hour” when trying to explain to viewers in the U.S. what had actually happened. The error wasn’t Hennessey’s only one that night either. He messed up the scorecards for the Pedro Guevara - Andrew Moloney fight earlier too. Tessitore said "Can we get Michael Buffer or Jimmy Lennon or Ray Flores out here please?" BUT... i do recall a time where Buffer also Fd up announcing a winner! Remember the Carlos Cuadras - Juan Francisco Estrada fight?
Hennessy is the worst ring announcer. Down here we have to put up with him on pretty much all our televised domestic shows. He has read the order of majority decisions out wrong a bunch of times so you already know who has won before he officially announces it he totally sucks I don't know why they can't find someone else.
Hennessy is taking annoying to new levels. The way he is going he have a hearter in the ring and I suspect won't be missed by too many.
The announcer read out the scores to the wrong fighter, mistakes happen. No one would intentionally make an arse of themselves on live television would they? They did the right thing by quickly reading out the right scores but let's be clear no scores were changed. Also the Japanese guy who scored it 98-92 needs firing. It was either 95-95 or 96-94 either way.
