To me the fight is probably more about what Cherry has left in the tank than how good Douglas really is. To an extent we saw Douglas' ceiling in the Fortuna fight. He has some ability, but also plenty of flaws, including defensive ones. The more experienced Cherry should be able to capitalize on the openings Douglas will offer him, but I haven't seen him fight in awhile and am unsure as to whether he can still pull the trigger. I will be tuning in.
Supposedly Cherry's win against Haskell Rhodes was an absolute gift, so you could argue he's on a two fight skid here. Seems they're hoping Edner's career trajectory continues how it looks at the moment... which is trending downwards.
Good assessment. Douglas did well against Fortuna but also seemed to take too much unnecessary punishment. Maybe he was overzealous after dropping Fortuna hard in the 1st round. I personally think Douglas is going to win since he is much fresher than Cherry, who turned pro when Douglas was like 10 years old. Also Cherry never really beat any of the top guys, maybe he beat guys on Douglas' level in his prime. I don't think he is in his prime anymore though. It should be a good fight but I'm taking Douglas to win it.
Close fight rooting for Douglas. Hopefully Douglas can somehow tko Cherry that would be very good for his career
