Eubank is one of my favs (and i'm American to boot!), and I would rank him above Calzaghe (an others) as perhaps the #1 SMW AT. At his best I like his chances against anyone at that weight. The Benn/Watson/Eubank fights and dislike of each other made for an exciting time in boxing history!
Very true but watson dislike for benn subsided after watson knocked him out after 6 brilliant rounds. Eubank and benn now are friends amazingly this is due to the respect they gained from their epic encounters and also they both had tragic fights with mclennan and watson respectively. So they had a comon bond and could know what was going on with eachother.
Here you go. I remember watching Eubank - Watson II as a kid and it totally blew me away. Regardless of what happened afterwards... [YT]wvh9-xr0gOQ[/YT]
Great, great fighter right up until his retirement. Extremely entertaining to watch. Awesome power, granite chin, good handspeed and really crafty counterpuncher.
What determination to get back up and deliver that vicious uppercut, because he would have lost otherwise. I still feel the ref should have stopped the fight at the end of 11th because watson was done. That 11th round was a bit like the tenth of castillo v coralles 1
Always a favorite of mine. Good to see a 100% appreciation rate from everyone so far, heh bet that wouldn't have been the case when he was boxing. Warrior.
I always liked the fact he came out and said that Boxing was a brutal sport and if he could do anything else with his talents he would do. I actually like it when a boxer doesnt come out and talk a load of **** about loving the game and being a bad muthaf**ker. Chris knew he was a bad mother, thats how he managed to get perspective. Also never ever saw him get even the slightest bit angry. Oh, he would have wrecked James Toney too.
Yes, that's why Eubank himself said that he wouldn't fight RJJ because he knew he would lose and was in the business of winning. And that's why HBO and Jones in a live interview pointed out that both Collins AND Benn turned down offers from Jones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjvBqSDJJoA Why can't you just praise Eubank for the great fighter he is, even praise all the great Brit fighters. No reason to go bashing American fighters and bringing nationality into it.
Good fighters are good plain and simple. RJJ is one of my Idols but I will always wonder why he didnt make at least one of those fights. Im not quite sure whether you should really believe what Roy and HBO say. I love the bloke but his words rarely matched his actions. Its hard to take certain sections ( and I mean certain, not all) of the US fight fans seriously. The fanboy gene which runs in the blood of nationalities just tends to be more apparant in those from the states.
Actually, as I far as I can tell, ALL fans from ALL countries on this site let nationality rule their reason. European fans are the first to mention American fighters and bias. And American fans dismiss Europeans as bums without actually seeing them. And while Jones has reason to lie, like all fighters, HBO certainly had NO reason to. Not making those fights cost them money, which is why when they didn't believe Jones he challenged them to try and make the fights themselves. What possible reason would HBO, a money hungry entity if there ever was one, remove opportunity to make exuberant amounts....especially between Benn and Jones. In fairness, Benn had already fought McClellan. He was not the same fighter. But Eubank point blank said he never had any intention of fighting Jones. He, in fact, turned down Jones before he fought Hopkins if I recall.
Did you prove a thing you just said? Why would HBO lie? They gain nothing from it, and certainly would have gained more getting those fighters in the ring with Jones. So why would they lie about trying to make the fights?
HBO arnt gonna come out and say that the a contributing reason these fights didnt take place was their unwillingness to deal with ITV and Warren and Hearn. If you lose the belt off your Cash Cow, your not gonna be very happy are you. Ecconomics prevail in these things and what is a certainty that losing the lusture of Championship Gold effects box office in a variety of ways. Even in Pro Wrestling thes factors are pertinant.
Many of HBO's fighters lose. And they have always tried to put together mega fights. Suddenly they won't do this just in the case of Jones? You don't think they had other fighters to take his place and make money off of? They certainly had no problems setting up the fight with Hatton and Mayweather. What if he had lost? They didn't mind it then right? Much of this is conjecture, and I find it interesting how Americans are the ones who are portrayed as biased, but everything is always laid at our feet of our fighters, and nothing is ever the fault of the European fighters. It seems to me both sides are biased.
