First off like I said Vernon was a bloated LHW, and Mezger was good. Actually I really like Guy technically but he does get careless and gets trounced once in a while. Its the matchup of a grappler who cant punch against a guy you cant take down, its styles making fights. He does have power but much like Rich who defended a few times, id say they have the same level of dominance. Not the ASilva or Hughes type domince.
Rich is one of my favorites but no way can his dominance be compared to Chuck's as world Champions. Chuck had 4 title defenses while Rich had 2. Now Tanner, Louiseau and Quarry where all solid or pretty good fighters in that time they werent like a Tito, Babalu or Randy and of course you gotta just throw in who was still a quality fighter at the time. You take Chuck's 5 title fight wins agianst any other 5 title wins from anybody whether its Silva, Hughes, Couture, Wanderlei or even ****ing Fedor im sorry but the resumes just dont stack up. I think its worth pointing out Chuck and Randy has more victories over UFC/Pride Champions then any other fights with 8 and to me that just proves how damn good their careers have been/where.
Rampage, Arona, Saku and Hendo. They are about even but Wand had a far longer reign and his schedule was brutal.
Wanderlei had a longer reign but defended his title less times and fought a bunch of cans or blown up Asians inbetween. Arona was no better then Tito and Hendo was no better then Randy. Rampage I might give you but Sakuraba hell no awesome fighter yes but this guy was a true Middleweight if you **** on Liddell beating Vernon White a blown up 85er then do the same here not the same level obviously but I dont give much credit to wins over Sakuraba.
You seem to forget that Wandy himself is a blown up LHW. Hes not that big, hes literally Hendos size and I cant recall what weight LHW was fought on pride but it may have been less than @200lbs.
I think they usually fought around 200. At the time I think Wandy was alittle bigger I mean look how good he looked phyiscall in the Cro Cop rematch he actually weighed more then Cro Cop. I always thought he might have been juicing in those days. Wanderlei had such a more aggressive attitude in those days and looked bigger.
He was juiced to the hilt in Pride, Honestly when I look at Cops entrance, he was alot thicker as well, so was Shogun and I dont know how Rampage made the limit. Damn near everyone was on gear but Renzo.
Chuck has always had ridiculously loopy punches, even by the low standards of MMA. He got away with it in the past because he had one punch KO power, a solid jaw and most importantly really good matchmaking. Now his chin is completely gone, he slowed down and he refused to change to even grasp some basic fundamentals of striking.
Really good point. Actually Overeem might be one of the few not juicing in the Pride days which sounds crazy judging on his current apperance. Add in Coleman, Randleman, Shamrock and Barnett to the Pride juicers. Baroni to probably maybe even Vitor.
