Chuvalo floored by Bonavena ?

I've read posts on another site (CBZ) where a couple of people have mentioned that Chuvalo seemed to get legitimately floored once by Bonavena.

Apparently, Chuvalo goes down twice in this fight, both are ruled as slips, but at least some people who have seen the footage tend to agree that it looks like the referee got it wrong on one occasion.

It's not actually always easy to see on film whether a fighter slips or is knocked down, but sometimes it is. I haven't seen this fight so I dont know, but if it is true then it goes to show that anyone can be knocked down (something I think is obvious, I actualluy think anyone can be knocked OUT too).
I also dont think this would effect Chuvalo's reputation for chin even if I found it to be true on viewing.

    Anyone seen Chuvalo-Bonavena ?

Yes, the full fight excists. (I have it in my collection) I would have called one of the slips, a knock down, but these things happen in the heat of battle. Referees makes large or small mistakes.

So one was a slip, the other a knock down? Intesting information. Perhaps the Kurgan or John Thomas can comment on this.

If Raging Bull calls it no KD it's really no KD IMO.

I have that fight on film. I thought both times Chuvalo went down were knockdowns but one could have been a borderline slip. The other is definately a KD.

Thanks. Did Bonavena step on CHavlao's foot or not. One poster thinks he did.

Klompton, and Woller are also respected posters and the say there was a legitimate knock down.

I see that. I think we are going to have to see this one ourselves to truly comment going by the difference of respected opinion.

I would have called one of the slips a knock down, but I see the action from a different angle than the referee. The referee can be mistaken or his view was blocked.
I would call it a good fight, not a great fight. I have a old clipping from "Boxing Illustrated" they call it 6-4 Chuvalo.
