Jimmy MacLarnin and "Pop" Foster. Pop had Jimmy from the time he was a boy and taught the future two-time welter champ how to box and managed his money so that when Jimmy retired he was a millionaire. Pop himself was wealthy and when he died, left his fortune MacLarnin.

"Zale had nothing but his heart left..."

    Nat Fleischer wrote...

Just as the eleventh brutal round came to an end Cerdan landed
a two punch combination and as if in slow motion Tony Zale began
the gradual forward descent to the canvas. The bell sounded ending
the round and Ray Arcel and Al Winch rushed to help the fallen Champion
to his feet. But all the fight was gone from Tony Zale and his corner
informed Referee Paul Cavalier that the Champion was unable to continue.

Dougie, thank you again for these photos..They bring back such memories
to me. As a youngster I saw Harry Wills ,as a spectator at Stillman's gym.
He was standing a few feet away from me,looking tall and dignified as the
picture above. At that time I had heard of him as an oldtime fighter, but
not of his place in history, as I do now. i love those old photos you post.
