Hello Combat (and everyone), check out this clip from a preview to the Frank Bruno-Jumbo Cummings :)lol:) fight -

watch and listen from about the 6:55 mark to about the 7:36 mark - there's an opponent and also a sparring partner - one describes Bruno's power as very comparable to George Foremans and the other says its up there with the likes of Earnie Shavers and BIG CAT CLEVELAND WILLIAMS

Wonder how the "Big Cat" would rank with the heavyweights from late 1970's and early 1980's
The 'Black' Gerry Cooney I would presume.

Very dangersous, until he got hit on the 'proverbial' (?) chin.

    Cleveland Williams vs. Earnie Shavers.
Now that fight I would have paid 10X over the ticket price to see that bout.

Cleveland Williams, as memory serves, KO'd Terrell and just about nobody else of note.

He wasn't that good a puncher or finisher. Ko'ing a bunch of .500 fighters doesn't mean much to me but too many postmodern scribes get all jizzdrunk on his physique and ignore his record and performances.

    A B-level fighter.

    Seamus,

You bring up a good point.
The 'Big Cat' was knocked out by 175 lb. Bob Satterfield, early in his career.

But on match-ups, he may had the right goods to KO Floyd Patterson in 1958.

That's a certain possibility, certainly it possibly is.

i heard the commentator mention williams physique being like a young max baer and i couldn't agree more.i've always thought they were built in a similar way, both having broad angular ' punchers ' shoulders

He's still underrated and rarely gets mentioned, despite being a very good fighter and test for anybody when hes in his prime
