So credit the man who could well have lost and so didn't get in the ring, instead?

RJJ, Tarver and Johnson (who joe ducked) were all capable of puttin losses on joes record. Why give him credit for not fighting them, give the man who got in the ring with them some credit. Thats what I think anyway...

 

I would prefer that Woods fought DM, Bernard Hopkins, Chad Dawson, Erdei etc while Calzaghe was busy cleaning out his own division. Maybe you would have a point if Woods had faced all of these and won at least one of the fights. But the fact is that there are good contenders in the LHW division where Woods has fought for a number of years.

But why give so much credit to Woods for losing to them? Hell, I could lose to them...

 

I took resume to mean faced the better guys. If it was intended to include the results of the fights the thread seems quite unnecessary because Calzaghe clearly takes it.

And to the chump above who said I don't know anything about Reid, Woodhall etc, they were good wins in the context of WBO title defences but they are not really relevant here.

So Calzaghe dominating Omar Sheika, who was on the same level Johnson was (he actually beat Glen via controversial decision right before he fought Calzaghe) means absolutely nothing? Sheika rarely gets mentioned as one of Joe's 5 best wins, but the version of him that Joe beat was on the level of the best guy Woods beat.

Calzaghe's clearly got a better resume than Woods.

 

Would that be the same Omar Sheika who never won a single title fight or ever held a single belt.

Would Omar Sheika, who has never won a single title ever, have beat Roy Jones? (Glen Johnson did)

I really don't understand how you can rate Omar Sheika above Glen Johnson as a boxer.

 

Wow, I didn't realise that we could discuss 'resume' without any consideration of whether the fights were won or lost!

On a side note, I've just realised what a ****ing awesome resume Zab Judah has and am off to start a 'Zab Judah: P4P number one?' thread right now....

 

A resume is only as good as the fights you've won !!

Both resumes suck, honestly... Calzaghe should have fought better oponents in his time instead of staying back home fighting bums.

 

Woods record depends alot on how good you think Glen Johnson is - he is NOT elite fellas!!

Calzaghe obviously has a better record than Woods its not close, Woods fought undisputedly the best fighter between the two in Roy Jones Jr, but he was dealt with appropriately in that match and was predictably stopped.

And why is okay to mark Gonzalez and hoye as good wins for Woods but ignore Joe's over Brewer, Mitchell, Ried and Woodhall as good wins for Joe?

Was Hoye any better than Mario Viet really?...nah...

Alot of boxrec warriors on esb like to scour around for names and ignore legitamte contenders, Calzaghes undefeated record and many solid names on it.

Woods is a good fighter no doubt, he has beaten a few world rated names, he definately has some world class talent about him but to suggest he comes even close to Joe Calzaghe shows more hate for Joe than love for Clinton.

 

Well Sheika does have a win over Johnson, and Calzaghe boxed the ears off of Omar Shieka.

Woods also lost to Starie who Calzaghe beat while injured... Woods is nowhere near Joes level.

 

This isnt even close..in fact they are worlds apart. Woods was a decent title holder and performed well over a 2-3 year period.

Calzaghe is on a completely different level and an ATG.

I really thought this was a joke thread at first...but seems its just a playground for Calzaghe haters.

 

Woods fought better opposition but Calzaghe is the better fighter of the two.
