With the amatuer game being made so superficial and frivolous, with the scoring system and head gear, it's really hard to tell more then ever if a good amatuer will be a good professional prizefighter. Plus lets not forget these commenwealths are the weakest in terms of competition on the amatuer circuit.

 

callum johnson looked like a bit of a brute, destroyed the welsh fella. could be a tony jeffries for all we know though...

 

Iain Weaver impressed me the most.

 

Tommy Mcarthy from Ireland would make a good pro I think. Also that super heavyweight from New Zealand would make for some exciting fights.

 

I like the look of Vallily.

25 years old, good power and fast hands.

Following the action

There are many interesting stories, and where do we begin. Do we talk about
English boxer ANTHONY OGOGO and the great big upset he caused in India
with a victory over their shining star.

Then their is HAROON KHAN, an the Khan family members were in the thick of it
throwing barbs at Team England. Interesting hearing Team England's boxer
response by BRADLEY SAUNDERS.

And who could argue that one of the best finals will feature two diamonds
in the form of Liverpool's lightweight TOM STALKER vs the "Scottish Thistle"
JOSH TAYLOR.

Team Canada, we can only shake our collective heads, when two medal hopes
were tossed off of the team by BOXING CANADA vs FISH & ROLLS.
so, the story goes, they did not make the mandatory pre-Games training camp
in Western Canada from their digs in Ontario. Roll back the clock to 1984,
and a number of the Canadian boxers took a rain check on the July 1984
training camp in the Burnaby, BC digs, but they were not tossed from the team.

The problem with tossing boxers late in the game is it sends a message -
and the negative effects cannot be determined directly.

The question that needs to be asked is what changed between 1984 and 2010
where some "special" boxers can miss pre-Olympic training camps and be praised in the press
for their ability while two would-be Commonwealth Games medal winners can
be tossed for missing a date in Alberta for a pre-Games bonding session.

The story line can continue in various directions from Australia to Zambia,
and the loss by Australia's team captain LUKE JACKSON at the hands of the
Liverpool lad TOM STALKER was good for England and a good payback for Team Australia who has a thing about beating the English despite many of their ancestors
coming from the "Land of Hope & Glory" in ships - but that is another story.
