I liked compubox for a while because I thought it removed just a little subjectivity from analyzing boxing but I grew up. Overall punch accuracy during a fight does not always tell the story.

Correct. There's also workrate, ring generalship and effective aggression to consider.

Compubox and a Pacquiao fight is a dangerous combination though. I remember Steve Bunce talking about 'Manny disease', wherein fans and commentary seem to assume every punch he throws lands, just because he's fast and explosive and because he's Manny Pacquiao.

    same with foyd.

Ortiz landed a lot more on floyd than compubox gave credit.

    Same with Cotto.

    it still gives something.

If your using this to reference Pac Manny.

Punch stats a side. Manny was the only one that landed the obvious eye catching shots, and was the aggressot and seemed to control the action too. SO regardless of punch stats, he won.

Punch stats mean ****, if someone lands 1000 punches in 1 round then not land a single punch for the next 11 does that mean they win the fight if the opponent lands 20 punches each round after it.

    This is the thing.

When CB came out, everyone saw it as the checkmate. The irrefutable point. It never was.

Now, the pendulam has (inevitably) swung the other way. It's uselss, ****, and you're an idiot if you mention it.

    That's the interent I guess.

The truth is, it's a valid tool worth employing. If the GENERAL guide is that one fighter is consistently out-landing another AND that fighter has tended to land the more hurtful punches AND the fighter doing the landing wasn't hurt during a fight, these three things taken in tandem, are a great indication of the winner.

For anyone who has tried to count punches on film to work out, irrefutably, who was landing more, this is a godsend.

But treat it caution. Neither worship nor dismiss it.

One thing though, cb is only really useful if you have the round by round punchstats.

I watched Pac Marquez III in SLO MO (numerous times) and compubox was bull****..

The moral of the story NEVER USE compubox for CLOSE fights to justify anything.

Wide margin fights (Pac Bradley) Compubox is fine...
