if conteh had beaten saad in thier first fight and if his next fight had been qawi would he of beaten qawi. if this has been done before sorry
At that stage of his career...Im not so sure. I give John the slightest of edges at his best..but by that stage he was beginning to fade. So Id probably go with Qawi.
Prime for Prime I think it'd be an awesome fight, Qawi trying to slip the jab with his cross-armed crouch and throwing his big shots over the top, Conteh trying to land shots of his own, move out and re-establish the jab, both men set and go through it again, would be a riveting battle. But as I've shown above, the key for me here is Conteh's movement, jab and ring-generalship. Qawi's buzzsaw-like style doesn't bring him through here, Conteh is a man who knew how to use his advantages. A riveting and hard-fought battle though, I'd favour Conteh 10-5, something like that.
Conteh using only is left hand is actually a really bad matchup for qawi, who was most vulnerable to the jab and hooking off it, especially when allied to educated movement. Not sure he really had the punch resistance, or maybe workrate anymore to pull it off over 15 with a peak Qawi though.It be somewhat of a replay of the Saad bout. Conteh at his best and fighting a discplined fight is one of the worst matchups for Dwight though.His left hand work and outside skills are simply too good, and though no light heavy wants to linger on the inside with qawi, he was viscious enough there himself to hang with Qawi when he needs to.Would be an awesome fight. On the other hand if like against Ahumada. he gets drawn into more of an attrition based fight and opts to swap punches with Dwight it would become a 50/50 fight imo.However Qawi is a very rhythmic textbook technical fighter, whereas Ahumada was well-schooled, but had that thoroughly unorthodox Argentinian approach to a lot of things, the way he could leap in and out at odd moments with quality powershots was even almost Rodriguez like.Dwight isn't any easier to hit, but he doesn't have the same ability to confuse and frustrate.
Conteh beating qawi on points, but it would be a tricky fight for conteh cos he would never have been in with any one like qawi a 5 foot 6 tank, so i see conteh takeing over after about the 10th round, after some rocky moments
Conteh prime for prime, Qawi late stoppage against that version though, he pissed his career away by that stage
At this stage in his career, John would barely have the squad juice to hold off Qawi, so I'm picking Qawi by late round stoppage.
You guys are forgetting that Qawi only had about 4 or 5 pro fights (and no amateur experience) at the time Conteh beat Saad. Could a Qawi (or Braxton, to be exact) that inexperienced beat even a faded version of Conteh? At his best though, I'd probably favor Qawi over Conteh. Earlier in his career, Conteh could be sucked into wars and was very much hittable. He was more polished and careful later in his career, but by then his right hand had become a liability, and after that his stamina and punch resistance became questionable as well. I question whether any version of Conteh could've held Qawi at bay for an entire fight, especially given Qawi's slippery head movement.
Never thought about that...I was just skipping the next 2 years and was thinking about the Qawi who met MSM against the one who met Conteh..In reality they didnt sync up.
Prime for prime, it would be an interesting fight. I think Conteh would edge more rounds through his more consistent offensive output, but if he gets into an Ahumada type situation, Qawi could very well take him out. Dwight was a harder hitter than Ahumada and he was probably better at applying pressure than Jorge as well all things considered. If Conteh plays it safe all 15 rounds he'll probably eek out a win despite some dangerous moments.
