Hey everyone, new member and first time poster here. From the UK, Wales to be exact. I'm a big Miguel Cotto fan but i've got a horrible feeling about the Margarito fight. All fighters have one guy who can give them problems and i've got a feeling that Margarito's style is gonna give Cotto hell. Anyone else agree?

Welcome!! I like Margo a lot, just because im in awe of tru savagery!! There's a difference between an aggressive fighter and a vicious 1 imo! But i think Cotto will wiin it, his jab is better than Williams' (who has an awful jab), and he can box aswell as fight.

I think Cotto wins, but it could be a destructive fight for both fighters. Cotto does have the ability to outbox him and he would be smart to do so. Something tells me Cotto can't depress the warrior in him for a whole fight though.

Can Margo muster up the footwork to trap Cotto? That's the question! In the middle of the ring, or if Cotto can make Margo chase him around, it's Miguels fight. On the other hand I think Margo beats any welter he can trap on the ropes or in the corner.

You overlook the Mexican/PR rivalry. I can guarantee you that Cotto is very aware of that and the pressure not to "run" against a Mexican is why I think this fight would be exciting as hell. We know Margarito is not going to run, and Cotto has enough skills to stand toe-to-toe with AM.

The question then becomes: who can take the more punishment!:deal

I think this fight may get fight of the year. In the end I think Cotto will win but I think Margarito will show a lot of heart but Cotto is a machine and will just keep coming at him. If Cotto's aggresive style doesn't work he has the ability to out box Margarito, I can only see Cotto winning. And then that will set up a fight against the winner of Mayweather vs De La Hoya (Mayweather).

No, I don't think Cotto can run around the ring throwing pot shots PBF style. He would get booed out of the arena if he tried to do that. He may start out trying to box smartly but once Margo lands something solid he's going want to retaliate immediately and that plays right into Margo's gameplan.

Margarito needs to force it into a free swinging brawl and not give Cotto time to rest or think right from the start. If he can win the early rounds his chances for victory will skyrocket as Cotto will get tired down the stretch especially at the pace Margo usually sets.

If Margo is dumb and gives up the early rounds he could be facing an uphill battle again playing catchup and needing to stop Cotto to win. This is a fight where Margarito needs to forget the boxing and just attack Cotto.

I agree with you, with Margo's cast iron chin and Cotto under pressure to stand and fight this plays into the Mexicans hands. Also Cotto's been hurt plenty in the past - remember the Torres fight. But i hope Cotto has enough sense to box and not brawl.

  11. Margarito is my pick in this fight, he's a hard man, with a better chin, higher workrate, and at 5-11 will enjoy 4 inchs in height and reach over the short Cotto, Margarito loves to fight, and i think he will bust Cotto up and stop him..

You're right. I did not consider that. This is gonna be a helluva fight NO MATTER WHAT. I think Cotto will take it, but hey, this is boxing; ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

I'm pretty confident that Cotto takes this.

I believe this is going to be the fight of the year... I think that Cotto will box Margarito first since Margo wants to start quick now and not like he did against Williams. We will see Cotto studying the first 2 rounds and trying to explode on Margarito's weakness while Margarito will try to blow Cotto and not giving him the chance to even think...

I think Cotto has the speed and foot work to not let Margarito just catch him and presure him all the time... Although the height from Margarito it's an advantage when you use your jab to create distance Margarito likes the inside fight and I believe that Cotto has the advantage in the inside fight with shorter arms and punches to the rib cage were normally taller guys are softer in that area...
